What the club says: The Heron Golf Club lies mainly facing south and basks in the southern sunshine. The panoramic views over the Thames Valley and into Kent are truly magnificent. The three courses, Hawk, Heron and Vixen have been designed with spaciousness and nature in mind and have been blended into the established gently rolling landscape. Varying the mix of course can give some interesting combinations. Every hole is completely different offering its own individual beauty, interest and challenge.

Big changes since our last visit
From South Essex to The Heron - noticeable changes, big improvements, both on and off the course. Looking forward to a return trip when the course is drier to really give it a go.Reviewer Rating

The Heron golf club
Formally South Essex, I haven’t played this course for quit a whilst and the facilities have changed a lot for the better and they have have done a grand job. The course was in very good condition in July the greens were superb which I have never seen them as fast and they run true.I did think the green fee price was a bit steep though.

too wet to be playable
played late on a saturday. nice enough course, open, greens in good condition, but everywhere other than greens very wet - ground was waterlogged most of the way round, a lot of unplayable lies. Course shouldn't have been open, or at least heavily discounted on green fees/warned when booking. Would avoid playing if it is like that through the winter, probably much better May onwards.Reviewer Rating

Wet
Played here years ago and never seen course so wet... I believe it shouldn't have been open. However when dry it is a fantastic course with some of best greens in the area. Even on a wet course the greens were still rapid.Reviewer Rating

Solid course
This is a good course with a number of par 5s. The rough is fairly short with thicker parts. The course is fairly open so it invited the driver and some of the trees are quite open so if you find your hall, you can get a decent shot out. Greens were very Sandy so it slowed them down quite a lot. Unfortunately not all sanded equally, less sand and the green ran quite fast.Reviewer Rating

Nice Course
I played South Essex in the depth of winter in December, with heavy fog and frozen ground so difficult to give it a fair assessment. However the course layout was very good with a decent variety of holes. I would like to play again in the summer when we can actually see where we are going and land a ball on the green without it bouncing right off!
