Beautiful location for a golf course but

I like Silverdale and have played a number of times, once upon a time I found it to be fun but more recently as my golf has started to improve I have struggled here. The first hole and the next 9 on the other side of the railway are pleasant holes with some challenges, offered by the natural layout of the grounds. Once you return to complete the remaining holes the challenge increases, more blind shots, undulating fairways, rock formations hidden from view and generally curious holes, ready to rip your card apart, especially the plateau, followed by a couple of hard holes. I?d recommend a visit

Beautiful setting for a course of two halves!

Loved this course. Quirky on one side and a bit more average on the other but what a great set up. The course itself was in excellent condition with a couple of quite challenging holes. The setting for this course is fantastic and it is matched by the condition and facilities

Played in a 4bbb open. Beautiful weather and a very scenic course. The course itself has some very interesting holes which can be challenging. There are several blind shots so knowing the course is a big advantage. There are quite a few holes in very close proximity so you need your wits about you for oncoming golf balls, I found this unsettling as you do need to be very careful. Overall the greens were in good condition and the general condition of the course was good. The course is hilly and a challenging walk. The clubhouse was very pleasant and we were made to feel welcome. All in all a pleasant days gofling.

Played in a Winter 4BBB last weekend & with an entry fee of a tenner you can't go wrong.
The only thing that gets some negative opinions is how a few of the holes run back into each other. You can very easily be walking into incoming tee shots. This mainly applies to the first few holes over the railway & again through 11 -13.
Keep your wits about you!
Overall the course was relatively dry and although the greens had been worked ran true & quick.
On a bright Autumn morning the views are great too!

I played Silverdale on a perfect late summer evening, taking advantage of the excellent value twilight green fees and holing out on the 18th a little under three hours after starting.
The course was presented in excellent condition with the fairways pleasant to hit from and the greens running true and at a good pace.
Teeing off on the first one is greeted by an interesting fairway tapering to the right, bisected by a line of trees and is a challenging start. With various holes surrounding the opener, I imagine that during busy times this may contribute to a slightly claustrophobic feel, but I am pleased to say that this is not an issue elsewhere.
The next is a short but by no means easy par three with a sloping green, before one crosses under the railway to reach what I believe are the course's newer holes. This side offers some excellent vistas, most notably teeing off at the fourth. The holes on this side could be argued to have less character than the back nine, but are by no means dull. It should be noted that there is considerable green-to-tee distance on this side.
Of these, I enjoyed the fifth, a dogleg with a wall guarding the green and a treacherous slope on the green; the eighth, a driveable par four with another stone wall complicating the equation for the player wishing to lay up; and the ninth, a short par five for which the best play may well be an iron off the tee.
Following the tenth one crosses back under the railway to move onto the original holes, which have a great quirkiness to them and require accurate tee shots and precision approaches to find the putting surfaces.
I'd love to play the twelfth off the white tees, as the straightforward and short par four becomes more of an ask with a blind tee shot to an angled fairway. The thirteenth is the signature hole and is indeed fun to play with a semi-blind tee shot preceding an approach to a green high above, certainly demanding a towering wedge shot to hold the green. Missing the green here would make for a very interesting short game challenge.
The next two holes descend, with two accurate shots required at fifteen. The following two holes make good use of the undulating ground, the seventeenth fairway certainly testing one's ability to play off uneven lies.
The final hole appears straightforward on paper; short and downhill, it is no more than a flick with a wedge, but the green is guarded by run-offs on both sides and an up-and-down from the rough is by no means guaranteed.
This is, in fact, a feature of many of the holes on the course. Although not littered with bunkers, the short game at Silverdale provided a challenging but not- insurmountable test, with the rough challenging one's striking and use of the higher-lofted clubs.
I certainly enjoyed my time on the course and I am eager to return. The second nine in particular is very fun to play, featuring many of the original holes. It is a testament to the skills of Colt that the original holes are fitted in a small piece of land and among rocky areas, and have a great quirkiness to them without being excessively so.
If you are in search of a fun test which challenges in particular the precision of one's iron play, while also offering fantastic views in most directions, then I'd certainly recommend adding Silverdale to your to-play list.

Lovely course but really hard. Narrow fairways and deep rough. Irons off tees needed frequently. The plateau is amazing. All of our fourball group got pars. The last hole is interestingand can scare the pants off those having a drink at the 19th. Excellent condition and will play there again.
