It's a shame that Shrigley has declined into the state it is. If some money was ploughed into this course and with good management, this really could be one of the best courses certainly in Cheshire. However the lack of maintenance and expenditure on silly things like signage when the glaringly obvious things are not been addressed is disappointing. The topology of the land combined with amazing views and diverse nature to be seen all make Shrigley something very special. Sadly until someone buys the hotel with a vision for what the course could be, then sadly i doubt it'll ever return to its former glory. A decision was made some years ago to build a pitch n putt course over by the 18th green. What a joke! I wonder if anyone has played it looking at its awful condition? It just serves as a further money drain to maintain when the focus should be on the main course. The greens have been cored more than I've ever seen Greens cored in such a short time. It wouldn't be so bad if they did a good job of it! So it's like putting across lego. They then load it with stoney sand but barely bother to sweep it in, so your left with a holey-sandy bobbly surface on which I promise will annoy you as you watch your ball roll towards the hole, only at the last moment to veer away due to it striking a stone, lump of sand/mud or an oversized core hole. Such a shame because as I say this place could be amazing.

A great venue not for the feint hearted, the course is very hilly but a good test, the greens were being dressed the day we attended, but all essential manitainance, the ground staff were out working hard all through our round, there are some great views over manchester from the top of the course, we were 3 high handicap golfers and all enjoyed our day and would deffinately play the course again. the round took us 4.25 hours to complete.

As always you hear and read lots of differing opinions about Golf courses in general. This is my opinion of Shrigley Hall, it's staff and it's facilities. A very warm welcome for our group with a good standard of food served in a timely manner. The pro shop's Tim couldn't be more helpful during the run up and on the day, pointing out local rules and conditions for us to watch out for. The course was exactly as described by Tim and considering we are in November was very playable with some very challenging holes but enjoyable for all handicaps. I had very positive feedback from all the lads in our group and a great day was had by all.

Played on Sept 15th as part of a Society. Fantastic and very challenging course which was enjoyed by all 12 members of the society. Was a bit dubious about the course before arriving following reading some of the reviews but had absolutley nothing to worry about. Cannot understand how anyone can have any negatively about the course. Some members even felt this was the best course they have played. I would advise not to let any negitive comments to put you off the Course, yes it has some difficult holes and tricky greens but isnt that what golf is about.

So i want to give alot of credit to the green keepers because it is in good condition, also to the staff who are very helpfull. Thank you and i will be coming back! Ps glad i got a buggy because it is very hilly!

The bacon butty, coffee and welcome on arrival were all good. Then it went downhill from there. The greens are absolutely awful. There was a notice up to say they had been fed and sanded which I know needs doing and would have been acceptable if there hadn't been numerous dinges and delves in them. This allowed pockets of sand to sit in those hollows, leading to very bobbly and bouncy greens. We all had at least 2 putts jump off line that were going in and judging the pace was impossible as you didn't know how your ball was going to react to each dinge. Very disappointing. There were also a couple of tee beds that were worse for wear. The fairways were good and the bunker I went in was well sanded. It was a 5 hour round which I know isn't the clubs fault (although there weren't any marshalls to be seen), and then to top it off the golf clubhouse was closed when we got back in @ 6, so we couldn't even have a pint. It's really disappointing as the course is an excellent layout with some really interesting holes. Although they have done away with the uphill par 3 14th, the 14th is now the old 15th, the 15th is the old long par 3 16th but lengthened to a short par 4, the 16th is the old 17th(thank goodness that hole hasn't been changed), the 17th is now a par 4 following the line of the old 18th with a new green put in and the 18th is a nice risky par 3 over water to the old 18th green. We did only pay £16 on a groupon deal, but if you're thinking of paying more than that DON'T!!

2nd time round this lovely course in 12 months. Again let down by poor course investment. Dead grass throughout the course, the greens are diseased and thread bare. Cut inconsistently leaving you frustrated at putts that bounce around the green on an impossibly unpredictable path. Picturesque course and with a bit of time and care could be an absolute gem. \'The Lodge\' is just the club house of old with a decking area.... No food served on a Friday afternoon and we were asked to leave at 4pm after trying to have a few beers after our round and watch a bit of The Masters. Managed 2 hastily drunk pints before being ushered out. Overall disappointing. We will not be returning as we gave it a fair 2nd chance. Practice area summed up the course. Practice green was Pott marked and diseased and the practice nets were in a state of disrepair.

Fairways are a bit scrappy. Some of the greens are ok, other very poor. ONly went in 2 bunkers.

On the plus side the layout is very good. Very nice mixture of holes.
Some of the views are quite spectacular as well.

Take a buggy.

Played this course a number of times and have to say it is one of the most challenging courses I have played. Very fast, undulating greens as well as plenty of very tricky tee shots and 2nd shots. 7th,8th,9th and 17th real stand out holes. Course currently just about playable after a couple of weeks of very heavy rain.

No real negatives, a touch pricey to pay and play but great value memberships. Poor reviews not really warranted and mainly based around the fairways sloping and greens being fast and undulating.

I played Shrigley Hall for the first time last week, and loved it! From the friendly welcome in the shop, all the way to the final putt on the 18th, I had a great time.
The course possesses probably the best vistas in the county. On the 4th, you can see for miles over stunning countryside, whereas on the back 9, your view is straight across into the city of Manchester.
The course is challenging with some excellent holes, and the fairways were in pristine condition. I am already hoping to get back there again soon.

This is course that a really needs a buggy as a lot of the holes are a severe climb. On arrival we were told that no buggies would be out today because of water-logging on parts of the course. So we played on without the buggy and it nearly killed us. But that probably says more about our fitness than anything else. But if you're playing here, you need a buggy.

Anyway - the course - some very challenging holes and some spectacular scenery, especially on the first few holes. The course was in reasonable nick overall given the time of year and that it was apparently under 4 inches of snow the day before. There is a herd of deer living in the park and they had done some serious damage to a few of the fairways and looked like they had been holidaying in a couple of bunkers...

The staff in the club shop were helpful. And we got in here for £14 for 18 holes plus coffee
