Attempted to make an enquiry by visiting the club while in the area. A beautiful setting and clearly a fabulous links course. Sadly, not very welcoming. Cold conversation with the pro shop who didn’t really want to get involved in a conversation about the possibility of playing there in the future. I might have understood this if the shop had been busy.
Initial impressions are that this is a club firmly stuck in a time warp when golf was for the privileged few and not the inclusive game it should be today. Maybe this is how they like it and for now they might get away with that attitude. Disappointing in 2024.

Royal Porthcawl is a true links experience and is easily worth its various Top-100 ratings and always provides an enjoyabe round. The clubhouse staff are welcoming and provide great service, However unlike my previous visits, this time the greens had been hollotined, sanded and the bunkers were a disgrace, either being repaired or unplayable. All golfers understand that this work needs to be done, but the level of works

What an afternoon of golf. Classic links weather with wind dictating the day. The course is extremely enjoyable with large greens and great bunkering. Plot your way round and you'll score well. A very well designed layout with holes facing various directions and views of the sea from every hole. Staff in the pro shop and clubhouse were very welcoming and the changing facilities were superb.

Fantastic test of golf, lightning fast greens that will catch any off target shot and send it offside. Bunkers are not in great shape, not much top sand and in most cases require a sideways or reverse shot to escape

This course holds a lot of amateur championships and you can see why!! Massive pot bunkers can catch you out, and the greens are like lightening!

Great course, shame about the weather
An amazing course no doubt but we had to endure persistent and heavy rain for last 12 holes which made for a very tough round. I'm sure the course would standout even more in clearer, brighter weather. Conditioning was very good, green complexes are tough but good fun. It has to be on any links golf fans bucket list...even if you dont get perfect conditions!Reviewer Rating
