Main benefit is the location (close to downtown / Greenwich) and the nice neighbourhood around it. The course itself is rather boring, with many holes that are flat from the tee box to the green, and in poor conditions (admittedly, played in March, but can't see how the poor quality grass and hard rock bottom can improve through seasons). If I had paid20 pounds to play there, my review mght have been more positive, but at 40, I did expect a bit better, even if I do understand the location must be paid for. I'd rather spend an extra 30 minute on the road and play something better for that price.

Expected better for the green fee
Well kept but it it’s a pretty boring piece of land so it gets repetitive. Also the least friendly of the few royal clubs I’ve played.Reviewer Rating

Great course, hard to believe its so close to Central London! Was on a society day, lovely food afterwards.

Course was being maintained and upgraded so there were a lot of holes with GUR on. Still a very nice course and the club house is amazing.

I had heard some excellent reviews about the course so maybe my expectations were too high on arrival. It is a nice parkland course, which is kept in excellent condition with fast and true greens. However, too many holes are not good enough for what is one of the best clubhouses in the south of England. I believe Kyle Phillips is going to carry out some changes to the course, which I am sure will only improve it.

The Royal tag ups the price, found the staff helpful. Has an elitest reputation, but we found this not to be the case. However being the oldest club in the world you can make allowances I suppose.

Very nice course
Very nice course with a lot of history. I would definitely play again. Thee was some maintenance happening which didn't spoil the overall experience.Reviewer Rating

Blackheath
The course is in very good condition both fairways and greens. Greens are pretty fast so beware. Needs more sand in the bunkers of which there are a lot. Some long holes but mostly flat and not too much danger. The rough though not long is dangerous. Enjoyablegolf course with plenty of parking and Grade 1 listed clubhouse and golf museum.

Testing little course
I've bee invited to play here twice. The 1st time I left feeling deflated as the fairways were in poor condition and the greens looked tired. In hind sight that maybe because of the deluge of people playing after lockdown.My 2nd visit I was pleasantly surprised to see the fairways and greens in excellent condition.
The course is littered with bunkers, ditches and punishing rough. Would reccomend some course playing strategy
