Old Course Dress Code
The dress code on the Old Course is that of any traditional golf club. While golfing attire is allowed in the Spike Bar, gentlemen normally wear a jacket and tie in the Dining Room.
Shirts must be tucked in at all times

Easy to see why this is in the top 30 courses in England
Our society played Royal Ashdown old course on 17th September. Magnificent condition and a very fair test but stay out of the Heather. Hit it straight and be brave. Equally impressive was the welcome and attention from all the staff. As we neared the end, our last group were tired and offered to waive through a member two ball who politely refused. In the clubhouse we apologised to them and they said they wanted to make it a great experience for visitors so they would come back! How refreshing. A top venue and a top drawer experience. I can't recommend more highly.Reviewer Rating

Wonderful golf course with some of the best holes of golf in Sussex.
We had a few heavy showers that disrupted the round and the course held up ever so well.

Greens were good, fairways sloping as ever but alot of the harsh penalising grass was cut back, so less time wasted looking for lost balls

Brilliant course. Quite tough but really enjoyable. course in really good condition. Really want to go back and play again or play the old course

ashdown west course a very good traditional English course very rare in as much as it has no bunkers, but bracken and streams aplenty.

Nice course, challenging steep angled fairways at times, greens in fairly good condition. A little short on yellow so best to play off the whites. Course maintained pretty well, needs more distance markers, no bunkers was unusual.
Food, drink fairly priced and good quality. Staff very polite and helpful in both the pro shop and the restaurant. Will certainly play again.

Fantastic course, not massively long but trouble is there if youre not very accurate. The scenery is stunning and a must play course.

Further too some reviews I've read about the old course being short and only needing four clubs??!! What utter rubbish !! In my group the handicaps were 10.14,18&22.. Out of 8 of is playing,& all under 21 HC only one played above his HC and he played the game of his life.i repeat play this course if you can,it's ranking is totally wrong should be in top 30 of England courses imo,best course around at price on offer,& you're treated very well by all there too

West course is a lovely course on its own,worth playing,but the Old Course is outstanding.Dont listen to some reviews saying it's short,off the whites it's fearsome! I've played some picturesque courses in my time,but this course in September is one the best.Front 9 are difficult,get your score there,back 9 requires your best game to get a good card,it's an astonishing 18 holes.staff and food excellent too
