A game of two halves !

What a fantastic little course this is and so close to me in Doncaster, but I had never played it before. The front nine is probably the tightest front nine I have played of any course locally and potentially ever, which is a bold statement, but I would challenge someone to find me a tighter one. Having played the front and hopefully survived the really interesting layout, you cross back across the road to do the back nine. Arriving on the 10th, you wonder whether you have stumbled on to the wrong course as suddenly everything is wide open and generous. My mate and I play off 6 and 9 respectively and we loved it. Score well on the front nine and you will accumulate more points on the back nine as some of the par 5's are reachable in two and the fairways are far more generous. The front nine layout is fantastic, but could absolutely destroy a wayward player. The 9th is a short par four, basically down a tunnel with trees maybe 50 yards apart as you get nearer to the green up a hill. For ?25 this was a treat, although I hear in winter its very wet. The pro shop was adequate and the pro was very friendly and accommodating. The tee boxes need a bit of work and TLC and the greens had been sanded which left a lot of good putts very short. We will definitely return and I would recommend you challenge your golfing abilities and give it a go.

Absolutely mint!

Whilst various courses I've played recently are struggling with dried out fairways due to the recent lack of rainfall, I played Renishaw last week & it's in exceptional condition.

The club pro, the staff & all the members were very welcoming & we thoroughly enjoyed our day out.

Would definitely recommend.

I played here at the members guest rate of £17.50 and was very impressed. Although the course was starting to get a little wet (I would say it's a course that's at its best in the summer), the variety of holes on offer made it a thoroughly enjoyable round.

If you play here at the weekend, don't eat before you go as the cafe by te 7th green is not to be missed!

In sumary, a very enjoyable course. However, had I paid the full greenfee of £35, i would have probably considered it to be on the expensive side.

My local course where you use 2-4-1's and its a great knock for £19. The greens are always excellent, true and fast. The 1st is a bit naff, everything goes to the right off the slope but i've seen worse. Some challenging holes, the 9th fairway is only about 20 yards across with trees lining both sides and a steep drop down to the road on the left side as well. A couple of very reachable par 5's on the back 9 as well as one which is probably not reachable, especially now its wet. Worth every penny here just for greens, you wont find any better anywhere.

The 18 holes at Renishaw actually comprise two quite different 9 hole courses. The first 9 is a very picturesque series of well-established but shortish holes which play back and to along a lush green terrace. Some of the holes have very restricted fairway width and accuracy is very important for low scoring.

The 2nd 9 holes may prove a slight disappointment after the very pleasant surroundings of the 1st 9. They are accessed across a dangerously busy main road and are set out on a flat and less memorable field which, unfortunately, proved to be part of a flood plain for a local river in the terrible floods of July 2007. This part of the course was closed for some time in the aftermath of the floods and seems not to have fully recovered as yet, even 12 months on. Still, you'll get more chance to use your driver on the back 9 and it is far more forgiving of the odd stray shot.

Renishaw is open for membership currently and has many affordable packages available for the visiting party. It also takes the 2-fore-1 vouchers at certain times of the week. All in all, an interesting and varied day's golf on offer here.

Very hard tight course. But because of the recent rains the first cut off the fairway was very long and took a long time to find your ball even when you saw exactly where it went. Also boggy in places. I would play it again but only in the hieght of summer.
