Will return and would recommend

I visit Pyrford once or twice a year and it's always an enjoyable place to play. The course layout is a bit different to the average parkland; yes there's water on every hole (sometimes more than once a hole) but it's the contoured fairways, at times linksy-feeling characteristics (esp. no.11), and fun short par 4s, plus two challenging par 5s at 9 &18, the excellent par 3 10th and some good quality greens. It's short but definitely not a bomber's paradise. Pace of play was a bit slow, not helped by a number of shorter holes and all the water, but 4.5hrs on Saturday afternoon with the light closing in is pretty standard at most places in my experience. Friendly marshals who to their credit were actively trying to move everyone along and keep the pace up. Beer a bit expensive though. Will definitely return.

Great Course

Great golf course. Greens are easily some of the best around and the course in general is in great shape for this time of year

Bring Extra Balls!

Good round at Pyford lakes although its a tough course where you a penalised for bad shots and even some pretty good shots which take a kick and end up in the water. Course has holes water on 14 holes. So pack some extra balls!

Excellent Hospitality

On arrival the staff was welcoming and they catered for our every need despite the very dry conditions that we have been experiencing in recent months the course was in excellent condition.

Hi Alan,

Many thanks for your review and we are glad that you had an enjoyable round.

Unfortunately conditions at the moment are very much dictated by the weather and we are in the midst of a very consistent dry and windy spell.

We do have an irrigation system and are even hand watering key areas. It is the weather and our fast draining chalk base that is making conditions firm and fast. Much like a links course.

Unless you are playing a clay base course at the moment, fairways and greens will look very much like ours.

We hope to see you again soon.

Gone down hill

I use to be a member of Pyrford and loved it. It was always a step up from other local courses such as Traditions, Silvermere and Hoebridge. I played it on Saturday for the first time in about 5 years and was so disappointed with the experience. The plus points were the staff and the greens. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful and the greens were hard and fast but unfortunately that’s were the positive ends. The club house had zero atmosphere, no pro shop and they charged £6 a pint! The course itself looked over played the tee boxes were like £10 a round courses and the fairways were too dry, patchy and divets everywhere. When I use to play the fairways were like carpet, not anymore. Prior to going out we were told how much money had been spent on the course and we’ll really notice a difference……not true. Some new, well placed bunkers had been put in and the new pond on the 6th is good but everything else appears to have gone backwards. At this time of year the course should be looking at its best. The worst part was the pace of play. I know it was a Saturday in July and they need to get people out to make money but we waited on every shot. We actually gave up after 12 having been on the course for 3.5 hours. There was a Marshall driving around but didn’t appear to make much difference. The layout itself is excellent, not a bombers course and takes some thought however, I won’t be back. £60 a round based on what I saw today is way off the mark.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your review and thank you for pointing out that our putting surfaces and staff are great. Definitely something we take pride in.

With regards to the clubhouse, the ProShop has now moved Online with a Click and Collect service for members and visitors alike. We stock all essential items, such as balls, tees and gloves. Onsite ProShops are not successful businesses in that they hold an inordinate amount of stock versus actual sales. We have found that moving the operation online has meant that we are able to offer a more tailored service and one that consistently beats the prices of larger retailers.

In addition, our clubhouse will be going under a major renovation project from January 2023. This will see the clubhouse become a beautiful modern venue catering to both golfers and the general public. I invite you to take a look at some of our concept imagery on our website.

£6 a pint is certainly the average in this area and our members receive up to 15% discount on this. We also offer a wider Partner Card Scheme which allows visitors to sign up for promotional offers as well as 5% off all sellable items onsite and online. Again, I invite you to take this up.

Course conditions are certainly firm and fast and it is entirely due to the consistent hot and dry weather, in addition to our fast draining chalk base. This certainly puts us ahead of our neighbours in the winter when their courses are closed and we are always open. We certainly do have an irrigation programme and our pods are on each morning and each night. We are also hand watering the tees and greens. Unfortunately, these conditions are just down to the weather currently. Unless you are playing on a clay course at the moment, fairways will be dry.

We are certainly focussing on pace of play at weekends but as you quite rightly pointed out, you were playing on a fair weather Saturday in July - in a period where golf has seen a huge rise in popularity - especially in Surrey. Our booking confirmation sent to all visitors advises of 4.5 hour average rounds on weekends. We are actively recruiting to bolster our on course team.

I do invite you to return, especially next Spring/Summer when the clubhouse and landscaping will be complete, and ask that you review your experience once more.

Thank you

Hi Terry,

Thank you for your feedback. We are in the middle of a 5 year project from the point of the GETGOLFING acquisition.

All aspects of the club will receive the same investment as the course has done and tee markers etc are imminent.

We hope you come back and visit us and observe our continuous improvements!

An interesting course with a prominence of water hazards meaning good course management is imperative as is accuracy of shot. The greens were good, the tees and fairways a little dry and patchy in places.

Very short and tricky

Not a good course for those who like to hit driver a lot!!
Short, tight and fiddly, would be nice to have the chance to hit driver at each of the par-5s, but the layout with water in play made that tricky.
Par-3s are all wedge distance, depending on the wind, but course was in very good condition and the greens were fast and true.
