Appalling & discorganised

Just returned from a much anticipated trip to play the Championship Shore/Dunes @ Princes and what a mess & bitter disappointment. Slow fluffy greens that needed a mallet not a caress and worse still, bunkers that hadn't been attended to all winter, some marked with stakes as GUR, others not marked at all but were a mess & completely unplayable. As for the Himalayas, don't go near the place for a year until they get it finished & sorted. I'm writing a lengthy email of complaint to the Secretary, it's a disgrace and I'd tell everyone to keep their money in their pocket & avoid the place for at least the next couple of months till they get the Championship course straightened out.

no discount offered for terrible condition of all 27 greens and the surrounding areas, some greens had so much sand around them they resembled bunkers. come on Princes let the punters know what your doing so they know what to expect!!

Princes is a legend, but the state of the course this time of year is a disgrace and the club should have notified us about the extent of the work carried out - advise is to phone the pro shop and find out first - ask for a discount!!

Worth the trek, but wont be back

Always wanted to play at Princes (Royal St Georges next door is too darn expensive) and with a 2 for 1 voucher it was good VFM. Lovely day, but windy - which is all part of the challenge. Not the most friendliest of clubs, but OK. The course was in good condition, the rough was penal but fair and the greens were imaculate. Enjoyed the front 9 (Shore, played in 2 hours) but the back 9 on the Dunes was tougher and soooo slow (played in over 3 hours due to very slow 4 balls ahead of us). All in all, I enjoyed the course, but certainly would not pay full price for the experience. Scotland - you are so much better!

Played the Shore followed by the Dunes, which seemed a good combination. With strong winds some holes played much longer than expected even keeping to the fairways. In some places the rough was tall and thick, so hard to find your ball and drives had to be long to find the fairways. Bunkers were challenging especially the monster on Dunes 5. Nonetheless, the greens were relatively fast and true so that helped. Take lots of balls and you may well enjoy it.

Played Shore 9 followed by Dunes 9, which I found very tough. Course condition excellent but green to tee walkways quite worn out (being remedied). £60 for twilight rate a bit steep when clubhouse closes at 7 pm. Unfortunately batteries on both the rented Motacaddies ran out of power and although the proshop brought out a battery the second couldn't be replaced because everyone seemed to ahve gone home and had to be pushed for the last 4 holes.

Very nice but probably not worth the money

Paid £124 to play Shore / Dunes on a lovely day in May. I really liked the course but overall would struggle to say it represented good value of money. Condition of the course was good rather than excellent, clubhouse was OK but not in keeping with the green fees. Pro shop and clubhouse staff excellent.

Great course, well kept, fab greens. Typical links course, trouble if you are not on line. Good enough variation in holes but wouldn't say there were any spectacular holes, just good all round

Excellent 3 9's, all of which are enjoyable in different ways. Himalayas were my personal favourite as something slightly diferent to both Shore and Dunes 9's. Facilities both within clubhouse and at the Lodge where we stayed also very good, and food was excellent. Well worth a trip and will head back in due course.

Good seaside links

Been a regular visitor over a number of years. Course still very enjoyable challenge. Club very hospitable with some excellent food. Would love to see some of the waste areas tidied up. The rough just off the fairways being knee high including weeds isn't a great "experience" for a resort course but can't fault the greens, bunkering and fairways in good shape considering. Keep going Princes, the improvements over past few years are generally very good.

Great course - beautiful setting

Having played Carnoustie not long ago I was keen for some more links golf and this did not disappoint. The greens were in great condition and most of the fairways too with a couple of exceptions. We all favoured the Himalayas but enjoyed all three 9's.

Great 2 day deal

Great value for money, two rounds, evening meal, accommodation and breakfast. We were unlucky with the weather, but despite torrential rain the course was in good condition and the greens ran very true, the Himalayas was still being redeveloped and the new bunkers were no in play, but still a nice round. Staff at the Lodge and the Club were absolutely fantastic, really enjoyable stay, would certainly recommend.
