Early March round after heavy rain. Course was in very good condition despite being wet. Greens were good. They did actually make guests welcome. Worth a visit.

A nice and tidy course. Relatively short but some interesting holes. All about finding the right position.

Paid £45 for 2 rounds, we had played here before so knew what to expect from the layout of the course, which is short, but enough to keep you interested. The differences this time around were a number of things. \- The grass around and in the practice nets had not been mown for weeks and were in generally terrible state of repair.... how difficult can it be?\- The bunkers were a disgrace, no attempt to even make the best out of poor sand, not even raked despite us being the first on the course.\- Areas of the beaten track were generally in poor states of repair.\- The club house and facilities.... where to start. The reception inside was actually borderline hostile. No beer on tap, but as a CAMRA member surely you can do better than Fosters or Carlsber as the lager options, and a couple of bottled bitters?\- We ordered 4 cans of beer, one of which was poured infested with flies, not sure if it was the can or the glass, but whichever!\- Then it came to food, no menu, so we were asked to tell the guy what we wanted.... We were unaware it was a Jewish club so the request for a standard ham egg and chips went down like a lead balloon. A straight \"we\'re a jewish club, so we dont do ham\" would have sufficed, but the barman decided to engage us in a rather strange game of charades, and responded with, we don\'t do ham at this club. Ok what do you have - tell me what you want - well I just told you what we wanted and you dont do that, so here\'s an idea why dont you tell us what you have like every other golf club in the country would? Beef sausages (cremated) eventually turned out to be the only hot option! awful.\- The course is nice, but the club house is so poorly run we wont be back.

Lovely little parkland course. Greens were slow as they were wet, but were very consistent.
Bar is a little strange with a luke-warm welcome and no draught beer. But food offered was good.

A club with a very interesting heritage. For example, this is where Tony Jacklin started his golfing career. Have a look on their website (which portrays the club rather too modestly).

Played on a Monday morning for a mere £15. So lets face it...who's going to moan about that?

The staff in the clubhouse were very friendly as was the professional in the shop.

Potters Bar is a pretty parkland course with a tranquil feeling to it (okay, there's the busy London / to the north railway alongside holes 2 to 4, but personally I've always liked seeing trains whistle by a golf course).

Course itself was in very nice condition with the fairways having plenty of life in them despite a recent and prolonged spell of very dry weather. This made ball striking from the springy surfaces a pleasure. The rough is not in any way penal and much of the areas beneath the trees lining the majority of the fairways has been cleared out. This kept any ball searching time to a minimum (which is always a welcome scenario). The greens were running very true and at guess around a very manageable 9 to 9.5 on the stimpmeter. If you did (and I'm certainly not) have a moan, you could say that certain bunkers require attention. Personally, the solitary one I played from was top class (think of Sunningdale's shallow but perfectly filled ones with that grey gritty sand)...however, in all honesty some of those I walked by should be deemed GUR. The club have filled several of these in, so they are now grass bunkers featuring growing gorse bushes (which look far more picturesque). I'd imagine / hope several more of the more tired bunkers will be similarly converted.

As a challenge I'd have to say that on a calm day you should rack up plenty of stableford points as generous fairways and receptive, smooth greens (although small in some cases) won't provide a Carnoustie or Aldeburgh type test. But if it's a very pleasant days golf, generally devoid of irritating hacking in search for balls (though you may still have to chip out sideways!) in a peaceful setting you're after then this is well worth a try...I'd suggest something around the £35 mark for a midweek round (and about a tenner more at weekends) is more than fair.

The standout hole for me is the 180 or so yard par three 11th. Played downhill to a two-tiered green. Pretty flora at the rear of the green and not so attractive (but still a great feature) hollows to the left.

Well worth a visit.

Greens a little slow compared to my home course but a nice course in great condition. We found the Pro and the members very friendly. No bacon as it's a Jewish owned course but my Club sandwich was excellent. We had a fine day.
