Great Views

Course was in great condition and the views are great. Nice mix of holes. The 9th Par 3 is interesting, a great final hole if scores are close in your round.

It's a really interesting 9 hole course designed by the legendary course designer James Braid. Usually i'm a bit dismissive of 9 hole courses but every single hole is interesting utilizing blind tee shots, blind approach shots, narrow fairways, small greens and different tee positions to create really different holes that although on paper look short they have to be played with intelligence to get a decent score going. There are some real stand out holes here with typical Braid brain over brawn golf needed, no point getting the driver out here unless you know how to use it. The first is an epic par 3, 180-200 yard carry over a mini valley to a smallish green with trouble both short and long right. The third is a long big dog leg to the right with a completely blind approach shot down to the green. The fourth is a slight dog leg right where you play up on to a narrow ledge/plateau of a fairway with a big bank up the left and lost balls to the right. The fifth is a blind tee shot playing up to the fairway on top of the downs where some great panoramic views await you . The eighth is a blind tee shot downhill to the fairway which is split with a little burn crossing the fairway where you would usually want to land the ball. For me though, the ninth/eighteenth is a gem of a par 3, 180 yards playing towards the clubhouse over the same mini valley as the first but rather than fairway you have trees in the valley and a bunker short, fantastic ending to a round.
The fairways were in good condition, the grass on greens were a bit long and slow. I think if the grass on the greens were improved and speeded up and the fairways just mown a little bit shorter then this would be a diamond of a course. Really interesting course with spectacular views, just needs a bit more regular manicuring to realise it's true potential as a fantastic little course. (7 h.cap)

Simply the best 9-holer I know. It's a proper downland course, with memorable holes that deserve a second go if you're playing 18. The fairways are tricky: you have to think where you want to go, yet it's short enough to score well with irons only. A good pro shop, friendly staff and a nice bar overlooking the final green.
