Great condition

This course is always in great condition, especially the greens, they are superb.
There are some great risk & reward holes, 5, 16 & 17. Equally there are enough other good holes to test all levels of golfer. The rough isn't too punishing if you're a bit off line, but gets more difficult the wider you go.
The hotel is basic, but the bar area & food are OK.

Great value

Overstone is a great value golf course. It's a lovely layout & always in good condition. There are 3 holes shut at the moment, but that's to be expected with all the rain we've had.
It's still on full greens on the holes that are open except for the shortened 3rd.
The hotel is basic, but comfortable. The food is OK & the staff are always friendly.
A must play in the summer if you're in the area.

Finding the course using sat-nav was fairly straightforward until you actually arrived through the gates, when the post-code the club uses for their address is obviously in the opposite direction to the clubhouse - through the gates and turn right to get to the parking - don't park in front of the chalets - most are privately owned, and therefore not part of the complex.

The course had a lot of rain in the weeks leading up to our Society visit. This meant that there were no buggies in use, and all trolleys had to have 'winter wheels'. because there were no buggies one of our players had to negotiate the course in his leg-brace, which was awkward, but he coped, which will tell you that the course is not too hilly. There were however a number of very wet areas, and almost all the bunkers were more like lakes, and a number of us found ourselves trying to find our golf balls in the bunkers, using the rakes. This led to trying to find a place to drop the ball in the bunkers, without being nearer the hole, usually on a slope!

The society day started with breakfast, which was acceptable but not exceptional. A number of our party mentioned later that it did not include tea/coffee - something I don't usually bother with! I didn't stop for a drink afterwards, so no idea what the pricing is like. Both the bar area and restaurant area are quite small - luckily we only had 16 of our society out on this particular day.

Around the course, there were a number of interesting holes, some water hazards which were in play, and did manage to grab a number of our shots, particularly the 17th which is about 150 yards over the corner of a large lake, and played into the wind on a cold day and therefore played longer than usual. Can't really comment on the bunkers as they were full of water following the very wet weather in late October 2019. Greens were very receptive because of that rain, but seemed reasonably quick and true, but hardly any slopes to try and 'read'. the course itself was quite an interesting layout. A couple of internal 'roads' to negotiate, but not a lot of traffic to worry about.

Pro-shop was reasonably well stocked, and the clothing prices seemed very reasonable compared to my local course e.g. £25 for a Footjoy polo - with or without club logo, and the lady in the shop was friendly.

I'm not really into practice facilities, but there seemed to be areas for putting, chipping, and a short game area quite close to the putting green, all of which was in full use by some very smart looking junior players in very smart matching clothing - perhaps a coaching day, or county event, although we did not see them on the course. Did not see a driving range or net, but wasn't really looking for these.

To summarise, I would be happy to play the course again - hopefully after a period of dry weather, and I know our society organiser enjoyed his day, so we should be back in 2020.

Good Course

I stay & play here regularly. The hotel rooms are a bit basic, but the rest of the resort is excellent.
The course is always in great condition, you don't get penalised unless you really deserve it, the greens are always good, just the bunkers are letting it down a bit this year.
It nearly always get's in Today's Golfer's top 10 courses in Northamptonshire & I can understand why.

Quite a nice looking course? Even if we only got to see half of it. Had to play the back nine twice. Booked on-line. No phone call or comunication to say the front nine had been closed due to the weather. At £25 each, with no discount offered. Very over priced!
The course was in reasonable condition. Again for the price though would of expect much better. Good tees, with no temps. The greens were very good. Considering the weather previously and on the day, played very well, true and quite fast.
Won't be in a hurry to go back, even if it is the closest course too me. But would recommend and will try it again as it is varied with some good holes.

Super course. 9 of the holes really stand out as quite unique which adds interesting variety! The 3rd to 5th is a real delight, as are the holes around the lake at the finish - 17 th being the standout one. Definitely play again!

Overstone Park in Northampton is an excellent course designed for both the average and more proficient golfer.

Friendly staff, excellent facilities and a lovely woodland setting.

This course was a little more open than I expected after the reviews I had read. However, it is very well designed and the holes are very well sculpted. The par 5's are especially well laid out and the greens are of a very high standard.
Thoroughly enjoyed playing here, and at £85 for 2 rounds, dinner bed and breakfast this was very good value for money. In a few years when the holes have a little more protection from the trees I think this could be a most impressive course.

A couple of minor things that would help the newcomer would be markers from green to tee as it was not awlays clear where the next hole was and also some 150 posts as the markers on the fairway were a little hard to see.

This is a long and tough course and a real test for golfers of all calibre's.Don't let the relatively easy opening 2 holes mislead you because once you leave the safety of the clubhouse area some big surprises await you. Hole 3 a long dog-leg par 5 followed by a real nasty Par 3 over a lake which is surrounded by out of bounds.Hole 9 is a real beauty, a very long and testing par 5 as is 11 where accuracy not power is the key especially off the tee. The feature hole at this course is the 17th, a par 3 over another lake but much bigger than that at 4, not many achieve parity here and one you leave this green you are faced with a demanding par 5 to finish where the green is surrounded by 8 bunkers one of which is the captains charity bunker where a forfeit of £1 is payable if you land in it.I found this course tough but very enjoyable.

Good course

I hadn't played here since before Covid, but it's still a great course.
A good test of golf, but not too difficult for beginners.
Greens are good, unfortunately they've let the bunkers go a bit & they need some work.
Definitely worth a round if you're in the area.

Getting tired now. Bunkers never in play during the winter. Lots of grass free patches especially around the greens. Bad patches of Badger scrapings which are never repaired. In fact I cannot remember when I last saw any repairs on the actual course.

Great trap

Its a course I've played many times over many years. It never tires and has matured beautifully in that time. The layout is testing and has some very picturesque views.

Like most courses this time of year the course has suffered from winter weather, however the bunkers are and have been unplayable for a very long time poor quality sand with stones spoil an otherwise above average quality golf course.
