Old Thorns has fantastic facilities around the clubhouse with a Starbucks, a great restaurant/bar, accomodation, a massive car park and an adequate driving range.

When it comes to the course we got a very good green fee rate which included a free meal on completion (Pie and Chips of which the pie was very dry and overcooked..), the course does struggle a little bit with its drainage, however, this didn't stop us having an enjoyable round. There were a good selection of holes and some great vantage points (You may have seen the 5th in many golf magazine adverts).
With the local area being home to some good quality golf courses this course lacks a little as it doesn't yet have the same history and classy feel (Course wise), having said that though its great value for money its well worth a stop.
Peter Alliss stated on the Open coverage this year that they were hoping to build a further "heather and pine" course on site which I can imagine could be even better looking at the land in the area.

Good course

Bit wetter than expected and with some tees favourably brought forward but overall in pretty good nick considering the weather. Tougher couse than used to but reflected in the 3 extra shots it gave most of us.
We had a voucher for a 4ball, otherwise would have been very expensive at £50.

Awesome but Brutal

The golf course and facilities are simply awesome. Very challenging course for a mid-handicapper like me, both physically and mentally as you have to be fit and on your game to score well. It took 2 rounds to really get to grips with the layout and how to think my way around the course, resulting in 10 strokes improvement the second round. The distances between some of the holes is quite long and it's very hilly so be prepared for some huffing and puffing up and down the hills. A buggy is recommended especially if you are allowed to drive on fairways (which we weren't). The layout and some of the holes are simply breathtaking, definitely worth a visit just for the views! Everything was is really great condition despite it having rained like crazy up to the day before we played. There were some soggy areas on the fairways and some bunkers were ponds but this could have been so much worse due to the amount of rain the course had had. The resort facilities were good, in particular breakfast. Dinner which was included in the deal wasn't the best but I didn't expect anything special. Also the range is small and for irons only so don't expect to be able to warm up with your driver or woods. All in all, highly recommended as an experience.

Beautiful course, ideal location

Had the pleasure of an overnight stay at this course recently two rounds, evening meal bed & breakfast. The hotel was very nice, comfy, clean and plentiful on the food front! The golf course was testing, tight in places, but from the elevated tee positions on some holes the scenery and well layer out holes were very picturesque. Some of the t boxes were a bit bare and could do with some tlc but it was most enjoyable and had the pleasure of playing some good golf! I will return as will the rest of my group. Thoroughly recommend it

A hidden Gem

What a fantastic set up.

Great staff, great course great value. Some of the most scenic courses I have ever played. Greens and course were in fantastic condition even though the weather tried its best to get us of the course.

Hadn't played here for while. Course in good condition given recent weather. Greens receptive and rolled well. Friendly welcome in pro-shop and decent value @ £25 for Sat twilight.

Excellent Golf Course

My first impressions were of a course that's just growing in stature, with lots of new hotel rooms being built alongside the 9th fairway. The facilities there are already impressive, with a huge spa, health club, and restaurants onsite. There was also a very pleasant welcome in the proshop, something that a few courses could learn from.

As for the golf course itself, with the greens having recently been treated I certainly didn't see it at its best. However, forgetting the greens on this occasion, the course is certainly lovely.

There are climbs to be made and wonderful views to be seen, and a large number of really great holes. There aren't really any bad holes, and none of the eighteen will feel the same as any of the others. The course is very fair and reasonably generous from the tee, although it's certainly not easy and there are a few holes which will require fairly tight drives or irons.

Highly recommended!

Great course worth the drive from London, as others have said scenic views. Some of the mid holes are not too inspiring but still test you.

Great hotel facilities. Course was a tad wet in places where there had been a lot of rain in last few days, but played ok. A couple of tee boxes were a bit scrubby

Lovely course. Tight tree lined fairways with a good variety of hilly and flatter holes. 10th hole bunker looked like a highly populated beach but otherwise the course was in great condition. Greens were fast but thankfully not lightning as some of the pin positions would have made it extremely difficult to save par.
