In contrast the Admirals Course is the real deal and highly recommended.
The bar & food area are very attractive. Well worth a visit if you can get on the Admirals course for a reasonable rate.

On arrival the golf club looks like an excellent facility, although we didn't use any other facilites. However, we then get told we're on the Commanders course. This is a 9 hole course although it has 18 different tee's so that each of the nine holes looks slightly different from the second tee, although exactly the same once you're on the fairway. I found this a ridiculous concept as once you are stood on the 10th tee there's also someone on the 1st tee waiting to play the same hole. The other bizzare fact is that for each physical 'hole' there will be one good tee and one disgraceful tee on a patch of mud! But it wasn't that the outgoing 9 tess were good and the back 9 bad, the good tee's and bad tee's were mixed throughout the 18.
The Commanders course itself is set in some lovely countryside but the quality of it does not do that justice. I've never seen so much GUR - sometimes there's so many white lines on the ground that you don't know which side of it you are, as the quality of the ground is just as bad either side. My mate played a short out of the short rough and struck a pebble which has dented his Vokey wedge, so he wasn't happy at all. The fairways were long and unfairwaylike but the bunkers weren't so bad, i've seen worse, but bizarrely the greens were some of the best and trickiest i've played on.
All in all, it is worth the tenner we paid but not much more. I was very disappointed that we travelled long way to play such an average course and such a strange setup and actually feel that the club dupe people into this by making people think they are playing the 'proper' admirals course.

Short course but in good nick
Considering the 18 holes was closed and so were the surrounding courses, this was in perfectly fine state to play after the storms the day/night before. In fact this course showed no signs of standing water and why we could not have trolleys is anyones guess. Poor Glyn had to give up!Reviewer Rating

Great course but ruined by slow play!
Played in a 3 ball and teed off at 11.00am - Didn't get done until just before 4.00pm! We were continually stuck behind slow players the whole way round. I can respect the fact that some players are slower than others, but having no concern about play behind and perhaps all 4 players didn't need to stop by the side of each persons shot before moving to their own. If I played there again I?d definitely make sure there wasn't a ladies society on right before.Reviewer Rating
