The course was well kept and attractive to play. Fairways were in an incredible dry condition for this time of year and the greens were very playable and quick. The views were stunning and holes were nicely laid out. My group of friends found the staff to be very friendly and the service they provided was second to none. Be aware of the dress code. All in all- a very pleasant value for money visit which leaves the venue highly recommended.

Wow, what a course, get there !

We won a charity auction prize to travel and play this top 100 course and arrived on a fantastically sunny afternoon in September to see its splendour. We were not disappointed with any aspect of the course, tees and greens immaculate and fairways in lovely condition. The changing background to each hole is very appealing and the tightness and difficulty of some of the back nine, make it a real thinkers course. I am a 12 handicapper and I found it challenging on the front nine but played the back nine 4 over, so finished very happy. Pro shop staff excellent, clubhouse staff excellent. Definitely in my top ten courses ever and I will be back to conquer that front nine one day !

Woah - what a course

Golfshake Team ReviewPutt it this way (no pun intended) the top British ladies golfer Mel Reid was there on the day we were there, practicing ......say no more. From start to finish it was awe inspiring. From having my name on the welcome board as you walk in, to the beautifully laid out and tasting full breakfast before teeing off to even being welcomed into the bar area that had been reserved for the members committee meeting in the evening (everyone in blazers, shirts and ties and they still invited us in to drink our beer after our round.) With such a magnificent setting I expected people to be a bit stuffy but I could not be more wrong. Everyone was so welcoming. And not forgetting the 4 hours in between the golf was out of this world. Some incredible views from some tees. Really want to go again when all the heather is in full (purple) bloom...as it does look so lovely....Only downside was the greens were hollotyned when we played 25/11/17 which spoilt things a little (but then again they have to be at some point!) to keep them up there. Will definitely play there again. A few of the holes are similar to Formby too with the fantastic pine trees around the course.
PS The amazing cars parked in the car park proves this is THE course to play in the area!

Amazing

This is a top top course. Probably the best I've played at. The experience starts with a long drive into the complex. As soon as you first see the club house, you know that you are in a special place.

Practice area is top notch.

The course has just been set up to host the final open qualifier this weekend. So at the time I played it was set up mean and fast.

The rough is punishing. If you are a wild driver. Do yourself a favour and leave the driver in the car. An Iron or 3 wood is the smarter play. You can generally score well if you stay out the rough.

Greens are fast and true.

A great experience and you have to play here.

stunning drive in, particularly if the gorse is out. Range, putting and chipping close by, not allowed to use the grass range for reasons that elude me. Clubhouse very reasonable prices.
Second time playing this course, confirms my initial impression that there is no better inland English course that I have played. Not a weak hole on the course. Most have great views. Play one hole, enjoy it, find the next one is even better.
Easily deserves its top 50 ranking here and more.

the weather didnt help but the course is obviously lovely and its nice that the rough wasnt as bad as i was expected. it has a reputation for having very punishing rough. it wasnt in its best condition but on a rainy day on a course that isnt at 100% it was still a brilliant game of golf...

We have reciprocal with Hollinwell and went there last week for the first time. My husband had played it before about 20 years ago and raved about it so I organised it as a surprise for his birthday.
I have not enjoyed a round of golf so much in my life. Bearing in mind there were 30mph winds and it hammered down for the last third of the round - it sayd a lot for the course.
It is a complete gem. Each hole nestles into the natural contours of the land. Gorse and heather provide natural hazards but there are plenty of bunkers and water hazards to supplement them. Some parts of the course just take your breath away with the sheer beauty.
I cannot recommend this course enough for a visit. We had reduced rates and I suspect a full payment would be pricy but make a day of it - it is definitely worth it.

The only minute negative is the usual complaint I ahve about having to pay for drinks and food separately. I always feel that no matter what happens behind the scenes the customer shouldn't have to juggle who to pay for what - the bar should take the money for your order and then the 2 sections sort it out themselves.

This is a minor niggle though. The staff in the clubhouse were very friendly, the members were welcoming, the Pro shop were efficient and made sure we knew were everything was.

I will definitely go again - every year if I can!

One of the best I've played by far

We managed to obtain a day playing pass on a lovely sunny autumn day which allowed us to complete two rounds and enjoy a spot of socially distanced lunch at this glorious course. The setting in the autumn coloured background is amazing and the layout is challenging but playable. Some strong par fours off the whites and the par 3's need some proper golf shots to land as well. If you haven't played it, try to although its a very exclusive course and a day pass will set you back ?130 which isn't bad when you see that one round is ?110.

One of the best courses I have played. You need to be fairly straight off the tee to avoid the heather. The greens and everything about the course is in top condition.
