4 of us travelled from Somerset to play the course over the bank holiday weekend. We’d booked to play 4 rounds with buggies.
Staying locally in a premier inn.
The level of service and friendliness from everyone we met on this weekend is hard to explain.
From people working in the club to locals playing golf or just having a drink was unbelievable. It really was like being with people you’d known for years.
We decided to have breakfast there on the Saturday morning and it was delicious, a real upgrade from cold hotel buffet stuff,
A full English with loads on the plate served up by people who want to provide a treat for you.
As for the course itself, I don’t think you’d find anywhere else in the country that provides the quality of course for the cheap prices. £15 peak times, £5 later in the afternoon.
And as time goes by it will only get better aswell, many more upgrades are planned. And to think this was council owned up until january where they’d run it into the ground and we’re going to close it. A disgrace really.
A massive thankyou to everyone we met that works there, you made our weekend a joy and we’ll be making the long trip back to you next year hopefully.
Anyone reading previous reviews from when the council owned it, please disregard them, they are no longer valid, and give a very false impression of current conditions.
Thanks again bulwell

Golfshake Team ReviewA bit rough and ready and the first couple of holes have had work done which means that the right hand of the fairways are just rubble. However, for a municipal it's great value for money and a well laid out course with a good mix of long and short holes. Not the prettiest of courses but well worth it for a quick, cheap game.

As a newbie to the game of gold only been playing 3 months this is a perfect course as the fairways are quite wide and allows a wayward shot to turn out not to bad but get it totally wrong and the course will punish you. this is an ideal course for begineers and i would recommend it.

The most improved course in Nottinghamshire and the surrounding area. The former municipal course remains a "play and pay" venue which is improved by the new owners month on month. The greens are kept at a high quality, although the is one that still has some room for improvement. The fairways are a good test of accuracy in driving, the course as a whole is a pleasure to play, it presents golfers of all abilities with challenges and for the bold, the risk/reward equation is a tempter. There are plans to open a new pro-shop and there is a teaching professional to give both advice and lessons.

For a pay & play course that wasn’t really loved by the local authority that previously had charge of it the transformation since the new owners took over early in 2021 is not far short of a miracle. Greens are in good condition, fairways are good in comparison with those of clubs in the area which are suffering from the drought and cold nights; those at Bulwell Hall are very playable. The rough has been cut back and is well managed. The whole course is getting a long overdue makeover. The corner 15-17 is not of the best with major works to introduce a lake where the fairway has previously been very wet and boggy, I’m content to put up with the inconvenience of a shortened hold and “winter” green whilst the work is undertaken. Overall a cracking course and the twilight deal of a round for two ball and buggy for £20 is fantastic value for money. The new owners intend BULWELL HALL GC to become the premier PnP course in the region. Well done so far. A gem of a golf experience.

Have played worse courses

Where to start!!! I definitely enjoyed myself which is always the main thing. There are some very nice holes if not a tad basic.
Was disappointed to be hunting for balls even on the fairway at times due to the amount of daisy's ( which is even more annoying as the course has been closed for months and this was its second day open. So you would have thought that the course would be immaculate).
The greens were very slow but held a ball perfectly when you fired 1 in. A tad patchy in places but nothing too detrimental.
Getting from hole to hole was a bit of a challenge as signage wasn't always great, and the course does weave back on itself quite a bit making it more awkward to follow.
Only real issue we had was holes 15,16,17!!!!!
15 is temporarily a par 3 rather than a par 4. In my opinion this hole should be scrapped all together in the mean time till they can properly sort it. The fairway is unplayable if "green" is missed. I say "green in the loosest term.
16 is a par 3 that isn't particularly great, and 17 is nice enough but the green has seen better days. That hole corner needs a rethink
On the whole we all enjoyed the round. Possibly a tad expensive at £15 with the issues it has.
Would probably play again but in no rush to come back

This course though nice and flat and easy to walk seems very badly signposted and someone that knows there way is essential. The greens are terrible and badly dried out and cracked. Old holes are not filled correctly and large patches are bare soil. I suggest going to Bulwell Forest Golf Course only a mile away. A very good course that is short but challenging. Very good value for money also.

Do not play this course! It's being used for landfill. Temporary tees. Uncared for rough and fairways. Lorries driving around the course, piles of mud alongside many fairways, greens atrocious with deep cracks.

Last time I played here a small amount of landfill was being carried out down the side of two fairways. The noise and sight of lorries, diggers and excavators are seemingly all around the course now with mounds of earth practically on every hole.
The greens are disgraceful, the fairways are not cut, tee boxes all look temporary and the flag pins are 15mm white water flow piping.
We paid £4.50 on-line and I was tempted to ask for my money back!

The round cost ?10 so wasn't expecting an amazing course. The holes weren't the most challenging holes and became quite repetitive. Holes 15,16 and 17 had no flags in them and the 16th green had been vandalised. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Ideal course for beginners if I'm honest
