Open Qualifying course - very good
I usually only get to play this course in their Senior Open in June, which fills up very quickly because it is so popular, but my employers hold their Spring Meeting here again after trying other courses for a few years, when the prices went up here. As all prices have moved in the same direction, we are back again, with usually 30 to 40 golfers ranging from scratch up to about 25. Playing in March, we were off their green tees (winter yardages, but still playing long with no real run on the ball). It is a real challenge, which is why it is usually an Open Qualifier. The course is well laid out, and the greens (holes 10 to 14) on the other side of the railway line at the start of the back 9 seem to have more wicked slopes than the other holes, and those greens/holes can easily ruin a good round. After all the rain we've had this Winter; there were a few areas roped off to stop too much damage to the ground, and this has worked perfectly, with the course looking in very good order. Greens were a little slower than they usually are, but for me this made them very playable, although the slopes did lead to at least 3 instances of 3 putts!
A few years ago; there was some work done to reduce trees and gorse, which has improved the look, but may have reduced the difficulty. Talking with a member I played with at their 2023?s Senior Open, they saw a marked improvement in usage of the clubhouse, and the staff are renowned for being friendly and helpful. The food on offer has always been good, fresh and plenty of it, and the clubhouse facilities are first class.
There are a number of public footpaths, and occasionally, the local neighbours don't look where they are going, and can wander in front of golfers.
Love playing here, and my hope to do it justice finally came to fruition this year when I was just one over my 13 handicap, and got in the prizes for the first time here, which I was hoping to do before I get too old to reach the long par 4's in regulation. Despite the age thing, I'm still looking forward to playing again in their 2024 Senior Open in June.

Open qualifier course - very good
I don't get to play this course nearly enough. It is a real challenge, which is why it is usually an Open Qualifier. Usually play in their Senior Open which fills up very quickly because it is so popular. There have been some work done to reduce trees and gorse, which has improved the look, but may have reduced the difficulty. The natives are friendly, although one or two of the neighbours who use the public footpaths don't seem to have any idea that they also need to look out for golfers, not just the other way round! The food on offer has always been good, fresh and plenty of it, and the clubhouse facilities are first class. Excellent course in great condition. Tough challenge for all golfers with a particularly tough closing four holes, a tough 167 yd par 3 (15), a long 426 yd par 4 with very undulating green (16), another tough par 4 - especially off the whites (460 yds vs 404 off the yellows) with another sloping green and finally a shortish, but tricky par 5. All three final holes often play into the wind! Top tip, everything, greens, fairways etc slope in towards the railway line that bisects the course.(Round played: Jul 2017 - Score: 89 Handicap: )

Played in late June in their Senior Open, and it was good to get some run on the ball and feel like I could reach the longer par 4's reasonably easily. It was a roasting hot day when we played, and they had iced drinks in the 'half-way house' which we passed 3 times in total. The greens were running true, but many of us could not cope with the slopes, and there were various reports of people 4 putting a number of them! Until someone pointed it out to me, I had not realised that there are a lot of right to left slopes on many holes (including the greens).
The food was good, and all in all we were well looked after on the day. The value for money of their Senior Open is undoubted, although I am unaware of the charges outside of this competition, except to say that the 'society' I play in which used to visit in Spring moved courses this year because of the increased cost of playing Northamptonshire County GC.

Not particularly long until you play off the back tees (6721 yards), when the par of 70 has a SSS of 73.
Bunkers were in good order, greens were quite quick for early in the year. There was some work ongoing, but the greenkeepers were reasonably unobtrusive, and stepped aside so as not to disturb our round. Wish I could say the same for the local residents who walk around the bridle paths talking away without a thought for who the disturb, and in one case without a thought for their own safety, when two little old ladies walked straight past us as we played into a par 3 - the bridle path went in front of the tee, and they were just about to walk in front of our 4th player teeing off!!
Over all a very good course.

Superb course, but disappointing greens
An excellent venue for golf, but spoiled slightly yesterday by very slow greens, which bordered on pay and play standard as well as attitude of members with two of our party asked to tuck shirts in, with one gentleman not even in the clubhouse, but stood in the golf shop.A great place that was spoiled a little
