Sad how far it has fallen.
It seems the club do not close bookings once booked on the online booking system? I booked two tee times for a Saturday afternoon and the booking system gave the impression that the course was not particularly busy. However when we arrived it was absolutely solid. That in itself isn't an issue, it happens, but the course was flooded with people who were clearly not golfers. Youngsters wearing T Shirts and Football shorts, people hacking their way round with balls flying all over the place and we even saw a 5 ball and a 7 ball ahead, creating endless bottle necks. I have certainly never seen buggies with people drinking beer and wearing party hats before! We decided to walk off far from the end because the pace of play was extremely slow. It is such a shame as in recent years North Downs has been one of our favourite clubs and courses, but this was close to one of those council courses where people with no understanding of rules or etiquette show up on masse. If we had known how busy it was and that drinking parties were going on on the course we would have given it a swerve. Very disappointing how far the club seems to have fallen.Reviewer Rating

Several irritations
We found this course to be quite frustrating for a number of reasons. Yes it is a challenging course in it's design, but several factors that the club are in control of made it all the more challenging. A number of the holes such as the 2nd, 4th etc are so dramatically sloping that even hitting a good tee shot well down one side of the fairway can result it your ball ending up in the rough on the opposite side. This would not have been so bad except for the fact that the rough to the sides of the fairways was so long and thick that it made finding your golf ball often impossible. As a case in point, one member of my party walked to where he knew the golf ball to have landed and all of our party searched for it. In the end we found it exactly where he had stopped with his trolley, but we'd all walked past it several times and not seen it as the rough was so thick. Even where some areas had recently been mowed, the cuttings were left strewn about, which again meant balls could be easily obscured under the dried loose grass. I don't think I have ever lost more balls on a round of golf.Another factor that might have made the course easier or more palatable could have been to include the hole designs on the scorecards. Unfortunately they have instead opted for pictures of the greens. While that could be useful to some people, you need to get there first. For example, on the second hole there is a marker post to aim for, but you don't know how far to hit, whether it dog-legs left or right and can't see from the tee-box.
In a couple of places on the course it is not even clear where the next hole is from the last green and on the 10th hole we weren't sure if we should be hitting our second shots left over the path or right up the dog-leg hill.
Several of the bunkers had lots of stones in them.
The car park also has large pot-holes by the exit.

Took a battering from the rain and C19
Oh dear....usually sucha delight to play but this time after the harsh rainfall and then C19 (can only assume that minimal work been done over spring) the greens are in an awful state and the fairways not much better. The greens are burnt out. Seems either decease or moss has got to them. Very dry and so ball runs a lot. Good news is the rough has been cut and so not too penal. It will take most of this year and next spring to fully recover(Round played: Jun 2020 - Score: 93 Handicap: 16.2)

Average
At present the Green's are shockingly bad. Can only assume this is due to green keeping being non essential works during lockdown.Rest of the course is in OK shape

tricky
tricky course wet and muddy at least it was open but prob should not have been as most others were closed, also noticed that a lot of the old staff we enjoyed meeting and chatting with on our last visit were not around a member told us a few had left or been laid off, not what you want to hear as they were the life and soul of the club, shame, obvs new manager and get golf think they know best, not always the way though .Reviewer Rating

Frosty and muddy and some greens uneven
Needed to get out there. Course was playable but there were plenty of muddy patches and hard greens that turned into watery graves. Greens not very even but not surprising given the conditions. On the whole playable but only just in some places.Reviewer Rating
