Used to be a nice friendly, quiet club, but recently acquired new owners and now sadly in decline. Booked 2 ball online for midday Sunday start. No food available to start with. Course beyond busy, 2 hours to complete 7 holes, waiting on every tee. Appreciate there was a society, but no fun waiting on every hole for players in front to tee off. Gave up after 8 as beyond frustrated. Nigel from club said to expect delays from now on .. certainly won’t be rushing back in a hurry!

Thank you for your review. We aim for 4.5 hours for a round when busy. As the course was busy with 4-balls the pace for a 2 ball would be reduced. This why we do operate a 4 ball policy and encourage 2 balls to join together.

Several irritations

We found this course to be quite frustrating for a number of reasons. Yes it is a challenging course in it's design, but several factors that the club are in control of made it all the more challenging. A number of the holes such as the 2nd, 4th etc are so dramatically sloping that even hitting a good tee shot well down one side of the fairway can result it your ball ending up in the rough on the opposite side. This would not have been so bad except for the fact that the rough to the sides of the fairways was so long and thick that it made finding your golf ball often impossible. As a case in point, one member of my party walked to where he knew the golf ball to have landed and all of our party searched for it. In the end we found it exactly where he had stopped with his trolley, but we'd all walked past it several times and not seen it as the rough was so thick. Even where some areas had recently been mowed, the cuttings were left strewn about, which again meant balls could be easily obscured under the dried loose grass. I don't think I have ever lost more balls on a round of golf.
Another factor that might have made the course easier or more palatable could have been to include the hole designs on the scorecards. Unfortunately they have instead opted for pictures of the greens. While that could be useful to some people, you need to get there first. For example, on the second hole there is a marker post to aim for, but you don't know how far to hit, whether it dog-legs left or right and can't see from the tee-box.
In a couple of places on the course it is not even clear where the next hole is from the last green and on the 10th hole we weren't sure if we should be hitting our second shots left over the path or right up the dog-leg hill.
Several of the bunkers had lots of stones in them.
The car park also has large pot-holes by the exit.

Thank you for your review. Apologies you found some areas of your round frustrating. We have ordered new signage for the course to improve upon the current ones we have. The course does go through the north downs hills so we can't get away with some holes running along the slope. But this does create lovely views and a challenge when playing.

Took a battering from the rain and C19

Oh dear....usually sucha delight to play but this time after the harsh rainfall and then C19 (can only assume that minimal work been done over spring) the greens are in an awful state and the fairways not much better. The greens are burnt out. Seems either decease or moss has got to them. Very dry and so ball runs a lot. Good news is the rough has been cut and so not too penal. It will take most of this year and next spring to fully recover

Usually a lovely course but disappointing this week due to the greens being spiked week beginning 4th July 2016 leaving them pretty much unplayable (if you want to get a decent score!!) Most disappointing is the fact that the work on the greens was not mentioned on the Clubs or the booking website that I used. I feel it's only fair that players can be made known of a courses condition before they pay good money to play. Will be reluctant to play there again any time soon, which is a shame. Would recommend usually but not in this condition.

The Pro's The Course Is Immaculate. A Round Of Golf There Is Relatively Fast. The Food Is Of A Good Standard. The Con's It Is Difficult To Get To The Bar On A Busy Day As There Are To Many People Gathered Around It. The Bar Service Is Slow On A Busy Day As They Only Have One Machine To Process The Transactions. The Interior Is Not Very Attractive As It Is Very Dated I Would Be Staggered If Anything In There Was New. It Is Annoying As You Cannot Order Food At The Bar And You Have To Walk Into The Spike Bar And Order It There Which Is A Pain. It Can Be Annoying On The Course When You Are Stuck Behind A Five Ball That Will Not Let You Through And The Round Will Take Forever. Finally With The Pro-shop It Is Good For The Essentials For The Round Of Golf But It Over Priced Items Which Puts Me And Other People From Buying Off Them. - Dave Reviewer

The course is not particularly long but a combination of tight holes, sloped fairways, unusual layout and tricky green positions make this an interesting and somewhat challenging course. Conditions were good, greens although didn't look quick were not slow and fair. Quite a lot of unrepaired pitch marls which was a shame. There are too many holes that either cross over or have to wait for greens to clear.

A lovely course, not the longest, but a good test. You also have to think about club selection to keep out of trouble that is usually not far off the fairways. Only negative was the condition of the tee boxes, could do with some attention.

Quirky and hilly course. If you were a member here you would certainly keep fit. Mature trees lining most of the fairways, easy to get stuck behind if you are not accurate from the tee. Some holes very difficult if you have not played the course before. Layout not very intuitive so it's possible to get lost. The invisible green on the 14th and the hill climb on the 17th were highlights. A couple of the long par fours very hard. Enjoyed it though!

Typical tree-lined Downs Course

Very friendly clubhouse serving a lovely breakfast! Very tight parking on a busy Sunday morning, maybe I missed overflow parking? Well presented course but a little repetitive with mostly straight fairways and very flat greens (i still couldn't putt - after heavy rain they needed a trim and a roll, that's my excuse). Protected by some narrow fairways and punitive rough which looks benign but seems to swollow balls and snag club heads! Quite a few short holes but with enough longer par 4s to compensate.

Played here for the first time as was going to play Woldingham nearby but that was packed. Temp greens in play unfortuantely but unsurprising given the recent monsoon conditions, including the previous night. Paid £15 for the round which was perfectly acceptable. Overall a nice course which was surprisingly challenging for its comparitively short length. A number of sloping fairways on many holes and also some changes in elevation in parts of the course made it an interesting trek round. I will most likely come back any play again in due course.
