Wide open fairways and good greens

Enjoyed the course. Great fairways and greens with New Forest ponies in abundance. A few temporary green were in play due to recent heavy rain. Whilst there was some standing water it did not cause a problem.

A quirky and enjoyable experience

The New Forest club is a quirky golf experience but was certainly enjoyable. On the day we played, it had been raining constantly for 24 hours so it was very wet under foot and there were rain showers throughout. This contributed to very slow greens but I would imagine when dry and cut, they would roll nicely. The course layout is very interesting with some very attractive par 3s (a couple are very long), some very short par 4s but some long ones too and 4 very playable par 5s. It's not a hard course and will play short when dry but the green complexes are tricky. The quirk comes from the largely absent rough and the uncut fairways. You prefer lies all year which means you can always play from a decent lie. Wild ponies and cows roam the course and there is a lot of manure spread around. It is part of the character of the course so don't expect pristine fairways. at £23 a round, it is good value for money for a fun round of golf.

Unique, and worthwhile

I'm guessing there may be some critical reviews because Augusta this is not. But it is a different experience with a heathland course (that apparently they are only allowed to mow the fairways on twice a year) with cows and wild horses for companions. Found the welcome extremely friendly, and once you get over that the course can't be pristine (nothing the club can do) then you can simply enjoy your round of golf in a lovey and unique setting. Suprisingly easy to get on Saturday lunchtime.

A lovely course set in the New Forest (hence the name!). Be aware that wild animals roam freely over the course, which in my view adds to the course and makes it very interesting. Hitting up 18 we had to fly the ball over three wild horses!! The greens are currently in fantastic condition. The ball rolled very trust and if you picked the right line the putts would drop. There are some interesting holes on both nines, and some drivable par 4's on the back. The par 5 3rd is a cracking hole. Two very good hits are need to get the ball anywhere near a very undulating green. I really enjoyed some of the par 3's on the back nine, particularly the 11th. Very touch to hit the green which has run offs all round. It is almost like an island green! We didn't try the clubhouse, but the members we bumped into around the course were friendly and seemed proud of their course. Definitely worth a round if you are in the area, although I expect it would get very boggy in the winter so suggest playing in the summer months.
