Played with our society of 24. Very disappointed. Needs a bit of care and attention. Tee signs and cards confusing with the 3 9's. The 2 9's we played were very different with the greens very slow. Bunkers were untidy with grass growing high around the edges. Trying be something it is not and seems to be living on its past reputation. Way better value courses around now.

Played on 25/03 and have to say very disappointed. Started on Standing Stone. 1st hole 130 yard par 3 on a winter green...Not the greatest of starts but was willing to overlook. The fairways on all of the standing stone were disappointing and looked like they hadn't been cut for at least a week.
Back 9 we played the Dewlaw which started a lot better and looked in much better condition until we played the 3rd (which was our 12th). Lovely looking hole dogleg right par 4 around 350 yards however it was completely ruined by the hole being shortened to 170 yards using a winter green. I am using a winter green loosely as it was literally a hole in the middle of the fairway with a flag in it.
Course could be a lot better with a bit more maintenance and also signs to guide you to each hole as at times on the front 9 we had no idea where we were going as the Douglas and Standing Stone run side by side.

Wouldn't return in a hurry.

Played in gale force winds on 3 October - not a good idea! Started on the Dewlaw - the newest nine holes. Will take time for these holes to "bed-in" but they aren't anything special and I won't hurry to play them for a few years. The Douglas section, part of the original 18, was better but again nothing special. There are better courses in the region to look out for.

My last visit to Matfen Hall was 10 years ago, and at that time it was my favourite course in the area. 10 years later, I was really looking forward to this visit for our annual Christmas golf day.

Did the course live up to my expectations? Yes and no. Admittedly, it was a grey December day, but the course has not really changed at all in 10 years. Parts of it still feel very new but the Standing Stone 9 has some beautiful holes with great views of the hall and the large houses next to it.

All in all I would like to visit again in the summer on a sunny day as the views over the lake towards the hall are stunning and the course has some interesting holes withour being too tough for the handicap golfer.

Friendly staff in the bar rounded off a good afternoon and set us up nicely for our Christmas night out.

Very open course, forgiving. Suited to a beginner as doesn't punish bad shots too harshly, but also has good length to test a more experienced player.

When played the fairways had a lot of standing water on it which did not allow any run on the ball. Some interesting and challenging holes. Would play again
