winter golf
Winter golf. Course was playing well given the conditions. Struggled to get rhythm and consistency in cold weather.Reviewer Rating

The west course is similarly varied, but probably slightly easier. The courses are attached to a hotel and country club and are very close to Edinburgh and are consequently fairly busy but well worth a visit.

Busy, but understandably so.
Two well laid out courses in great shape, but you have to be too in order to tackle some of the hills. The 1st & 10fh of the east course and the 1st of the west are hits up a hill to an attractive wooded plateau with views towards the Forth bridges. There is a pleasing mix of holes on both courses. On the less challenging west course the last six holes take you down into a valley well below the hotel before battering your way back up. The east course sperates the men from the boys on the last six. I'm probably still a bit immature.Great for a golf break at the hotel, or an easy day trip from Edinburgh or even Glasgow.

Great Championship Venue
What does your usual golf visit look like? Perhaps quiet and solitary....not at Dalmahoy when the weather is good. From the first tee you see real people and characters milling around, groups of kids being coached, early finishers having a drink by the final green. You feel welcomed, you feel human.....there are not endless groups of subdued loners quietly heading out or rowdy lads throwing etiquette to the wind, it is a nice middle space...in this player's view. Players respect your space, but are not afraid to speak. The rest of the facilities make this possible, but the East course has many good holes to enjoy and challenge your game. Ground was in good condition, although some greens were a little short of their best competition conditions. Greens are firm and reasonably fast without being set too hard. Greens and tees grouped in areas mean you see others in the passing and while holes 2-7 are fairly plain before the undulating 8th, blind tee and slow dogleg right of 9 offer a start to greater imagination in the course and scoring chances. This culminates with the main tests at 13 and 14 set in an intimate silver birch coppice mixed with streams, ponds and lush grasses. The finishing 18th is a quirky and distinctive finish hole.Reviewer Rating

Long but glorious
The course was I. Good condition, just wish my golf had been in similar condition. Fairways were well cut and the greens consistent and true.Reviewer Rating
