Hilly in parts
Two distinct 18 hole courses, Moorland is much less hilly, but more exposed to the elements. Wonderful views over the power stations of Derbyshire, and (joking apart) the lovely wide-open country around. Challenging courses but very enjoyable, and superb hospitality from the members.Reviewer Rating

Great course spoilt by abuse
I have stayed and played at this hotel several times but on this occasion the rude and arrogant behaviour of another player spoilt it. It was an 80th birthday treat by my son. We played with my nephew and had a great time until the abuse from a club member. At no time when booking or playing were we told we had to use a mat. This bully would not stop shouting at us even when we were addressing the ball. No doubt as a senior member he had the right to point out that we should be playing off a mat or from the light rough but he bellowed at us as if we were naughty schoolchildren and would not listen to our explanation. I suppose all clubs have one bully and it was our bad luck to meet him. The last few holes were ruined as he bellowed at us from 20 to 30 yards away. The club have promised to confront him and offered us a half price round until the end of March but that’s no good as I pointed out as we don’t play off mats. So be warned! Beware of bullying members!Reviewer Rating

steeply uphill and downhill
Very odd course . It is basically located on a hillside so virtually every hole is either steeply uphill or downhill with hideous cambers so a good shot can hit the fairway and then fall dramatically away. Obviously, it helps if you have knowledge of the course and know where you need to aim. There are a couple of holes where you have to hit over the vehicular access so you have to be very careful not to hit a car, Overall, for the effort of playing it, there are many better courses. Also toilet facilities on the course are very poor,Reviewer Rating

Challenging course
Played last week, happy with 107 playing off a 32 handicap. Only played 9 holes though as the 3 groups I was holding up behind was getting abusive.Reviewer Rating

On arrival you are provided with a code to the changing rooms which are free of use, which have a very Spa and luxury feel to them, with free lockers which is handy to store all your items you do not want to take on the course.
The Course itself is in immaculate condition with tee boxes with ball cleaners, great info on yardage and generally taken care of very very well.
All the little things are done to perfection here which is great to see, the only slight downside i would say is that it isnt cheap, especially the buggy's which are very expensive at £30 in comparison to £15 most places.
Overall you do pay for quality and its well worth a day out.

Hilly with a few winter greens
First round of the year, not the best. Quite a hilly course and a few winter greens operational. Not sure why, except to protect the real ones, as it was dry and the real greens looked tip top. Lasting thoughts were that was a hard slog, but it was first of the year.Reviewer Rating

Moorland Course Review
Played the Moorland course which was generally in good condition. Can be quite windy as this is located on top of a hill. The greens were nice and true. There are a few holes that run adjacent to one another, this could be an issue with balls flying all over the place and the regular shouts of fore! Apart from this I enjoyed the round and would like to play here on a much calmer day in summer.Reviewer Rating
