You have to play there

Hugely expensive, dont seem to care once they have your money
44 of us went for our start of the season trip. We have done this for years and every other devere or mariott give us a discount voucher for the bar. Not here, very expensive.Booked a 3 course choice menu as part of our DBB and were told at the 11th hour that it was a carvery, again not offered any apologies or compensation.
The biggest issue was the courses, we were assured all week after bad weather that the courses were fully open with no restrictions. on arrival we were told only 14 holes open on the priory course and on the moorland course we will be playing winter rules (use a fairway mat or move your ball off the fairway). But we could hire a buggy to drive on the same fairways we couldnt hit a ball on.
This was a big disappointment but as it was the end of winter, we accepted it (again with no compensation). But the biggest kick in the teeth was that all members out at the same time as us were not playing 'winter rules' just our group it seems. its left a very bitter taste with me.
(oh and just an FYI, i wanted some new shoes. but i played in my old ones as the ones in the shop were £185, for the same shoes i bought in american golf a year ago for £95.

very disappointed heard so much about course, played mainly off mats, 2 temp greens, also very boggy, also all greens where patchy and very hard to read. we where not told any off this at time of booking, would check next time, better courses for the money!
(Round played: Apr 2015 - Score: 101 Handicap: 18)

- there were four temporary greens. Again, not good enough for £35 winter rate.
We threw the towl in after 10 holes. The back nine may have been nicer, but I was tired of hitting five irons off mats to avoid going through dog-legs.
- quite a few blind shots (having to aim at a stake), which I'm not a fan of, generally because they reflect too little land for a hole.
- alot of side-hill and angled iron shots. Greens were in decent condition for end of February, but hadn't been rolled and the groundsman's boot marks were on several of them. Not goog enough for £35 in winter.
- the man in the green fees office was rather bullying when I responded to his remark "That was quick" with the points above (shortened). Completely refused to accept that existence and placement of tees meant the advertised length of 6000 yards was misleading. Argued with everything I suggested, despite asking for my feedback. He was of the old-school golfing attitude "Don't like it, don't play here" which may have contributed to the reduction in the populatity of golf in recent years.
- Overall, a thoroughly disappointing 10 holes of golf rewarded by a rude reception on returning the trolley. I cannot fathom how this course is value for money at full green fees, unless you are happy paying £65 for some good views over the surrounds. Complete rip-off, but, being attached to a hotel, corporates seems prepared to pay it and the club will probably continue to prosper (or get by, at least)

What is all that about?
(Round played: Dec 2013 - Score: 93 Handicap: 22.6)

The course itself is a little bland and gives the feel of playing the same holes again and again. All the par 3's are shortish. I will not be returning to this course.

Worth a visit
Stayed at the hotel so took the clubs for a quick round on the Priory course. Not the best start when I was told it would be £20 on the phone and was then charged £30 in the pro shop (chap working there not the friendliest). On the whole it is a nice course, fairways and greens were in excellent condition. The greens are small which makes it a bit of a sterner test. Little features make the difference, like the high quality hole signs which so many courses lack.
It is not the hardest course ever, most fairways are wide open so if you spray it around a bit you are more than likely going to find your ball and have a decent shot in. There are a few bland holes but equally some really nice interesting holes, particularly the holes where you play round the driving range and over the road.
Interesting to rad other reviews saying the course is 'tight' - I cannot see how that is true at all. Maybe on 3 or 4 holes, but the rest are wide open. Also others have noted the unfriendly shop staff.
I certainly would not be happy paying more than £30 for a round here, but i think that is a fair price for a relatively short, easy course.

very hilly course not good for a sunday after 3 rounds of golf
