CHEAP AND NASTY
what happened to lydd ? Used to be such a great couse but is getting worse every year. Course maintenance is terrible. Tees have no grass. Greens been hollow tined with a blunt spoon and the bunkers ? Half have been filled in badly or the other half have ankle deep weeds or full of shingle . After lockdown, littlestone, sene valley etc etc are in A1 condition so no excuses there. Such a shame but i think the owners of lydd have given up.Reviewer Rating

Great Layout
Links style with lots of water, which gathers your ball up, so position off the tee is vital. The course is a challenge, especially the back 9. Greens generally very good, 2 or 3 of them and tees need some TLC but bunkers and fairways excellent. Played on a fine day with a moderate breeze. If you score well around here you have earned a stop at the 19th which was open all be it al fresco and was welcoming. Will try to return soon.Reviewer Rating

Tough Course but so Emjoyable
Lydd is my home course and and I try to play as often as I can. It's a tough course with lots of water and even more wind. Essentially a links course but with quite a few trees. A good mixture of holes 3 x Par 3', 2 x Par 5's and the rest 4's. Water comes into play on pretty much every hole and there are some horrible runs from the fairways to the water and ditches so you have to be quite accurate on some holes. The condition of the course is excellent with good quick greens, but my only moan is that sometimes the Tees could be a bit better, but Rabbits are a major factor in this.
A lot of people do not like playing Lydd because of the wind and water but I think that these factors only make Lydd more of a challenge. If you can go round Lydd and post a decent score then most other courses should be a doddle.

Trevor
A friend and I played this course yesterday and despite there being little wind found it to be a fair test of golf.We played off the White tees and the course was well set up and challenging. There are lots of drives were the fairway pinches in at around 200yds so accuracy and placement was key to a good score.
The greens were well maintained and had a consistent pace.
There are lots and lots of bunkers on the course and they are not so well maintained and the one thing that lets the course down. Weeds are abundant in them and they show little sign of having been raked on a regular basis.
That said, the course is in a lovely setting, it's a bargain green fee and few will break their handicap on their first visit.

Good and challenging course
Really enjoyed our play at Lydd. I have played here before as its great value although a bit of a distance for me. I find the course reminds you of a way of playing a different type of golf as you need to plot your way around. Course is in excellent condition all year round and I have given it an excellent rating based on value for money. Lastly "stay out of the rough" or you are blobbing the hole.Reviewer Rating
