Lovely views, tough course first time
Classic links golf; strong winds as one is very high on the South Downs. Course felt good throughout; greens were true and neither quick nor slow. A couple of blind shots but nothing to stop one playing. I loved it - would like to play here again. Wouldn't fancy it in bad weather as very exposed.Reviewer Rating

Full of character
It's not for the beginner. It's views are amazing and the course is full of character, some real challenging holes, the 18th being one of many.Highly recommend playing it if you haven't played there before.
Greens in good condition but tees were in a bad state.

Awesome
This is a great course, with some of the best views in England. The greens are great, a real challenge. It's not the longest course, but is a test, with sloping fairways.Reviewer Rating

Nicely tuck away above Lewes
Interesting layout above Lewes. Not the easiest to find or arrive at. Very warm welcome from pro and very informative. Course itself as this was my first visit difficult to gage. The greens were fast and undulating and in very good condition. The tees were well rotated and seeding provided at all par 3's. As there are plenty of public footpath need to be vigilent of walkers coming around the corner. Fairways not the best but considering the chalk features not too bad. A bit scraped up in places. Will definitely play again...oh and not for the feint hearted. Plenty of slopes and borrows to deal with.Reviewer Rating

Wish I'd found it earlier. It's a gem!
I'm a 71-year-old 18 handicapper and played it for the first time this week with my son. It was seriously windy, but this just added to the enjoyment. I wish I'd found it 20 years ago! Great welcome from the pro who also gave good advice and on a Sunday afternoon, we basically had the course to ourselves. Like all old courses, it's a bit quirky and the designer certainly knew all about the prevailing winds and where to put the bunkers. Again, the smallish greens are indicative of their age and in most cases they require a run in rather than a high shot, but the original contours make for some interesting putts. On most holes there's plenty of room for the odd wayward shot, but avoid the bunkers - they're brutal and coming out sideways can often be the best option. It's not a particularly difficult course to walk, undulating rather than hilly, and I managed fine with an electric trolley. I had a bad front 9 (three to get out of one bunker which i hadn't even seen from the tee) scoring 51, but a 43 on the back 9, considering the high winds, wasn't too bad. I will definitely return and improve on that on a calmer day. The tightest drive of the day is the one up the hill to the course itself. There weren't many cars in Lewes when this course opened, so take care and the time to enjoy the quaint properties on the way in. Lewes, you don't just have good beer - you have great golf. Thank you.Reviewer Rating

Beautiful backdrop and a very enjoyable course
Decided to visit Lewes as had heard it drains very well in wet weather and have been frustrated by other courses understandably being quite ready after all the wet weather. We were so impressed. The course was in great condition, with firm greens that were fun and challenging! If you like your golf with stunning views and thought provoking greens this is the place. We will be back soon!Only gripe was that the club house was closed when we had finished at 8pm on a hot sunny day!
