Course in fairly good condition, little bit of drainage needed on a couple of the holes but the greens were playing very true.

We booked this course through teeofftimes and played 31 May 2014. The course description certainly emphasised it being a round of two halves and the majority of our society would agree.

First impressions weren't fantastic. The facilities did seem to lack somewhat. Parking was very limited and the club shop offered very little in the way of golfing products. I would never mark this as a down point on a course though as you shouldn't really be turning up to a course without the essentials. One point I would like to bring up before reviewing the actual round is the course dress code. I don't think I have ever played on a course where people have gone out in football shorts and trainers. Several people were out there in jeans as well. This was very disappointing and seemed to have already made an impression on the members in our party.

So, onto the course itself. You begin on a par 3 - 154 yard hole. Sadly this was to bring up one of the major issues of the day. Distances and markers! The hole appears a lot longer than 154 and playing off the whites several of the guys were taking 5/6 irons to even reach the green. After the opening hole you venture out over the road and onto the flat ground. 7 holes lined up nicely with open fairways and a few hazards here and there. Again though the length of some holes did seem a bit inaccurate and the none existent markers made it tough to estimate yardage. Drainage around these opening holes did make missing the fairway tough. Plugged lies and balls disappearing in the first cut made for a frustrating few hours. Oh, and if you are unlucky enough to find a bunker lets just hope you do so early on in the day as there are no rakes available and they were already a mess by 11am. There are some pleasant holes throughout the front 9 but I think verdicts were already locked in. This course had disappointed many of the players and most were just wanting to get through the back 9 as fast as they could.

Then there was hope. I've never seen such a difference in a course. Without knowing the club history I think it is fair to say this used to be a municipal 9 hole course some years ago that has added 9 rather enjoyable and challenging holes. Sadly this back 9 didn't make up for the overall failings of the course and these holes may only have seemed remotely pleasurable due to the blandness of the opening half of the round.

In summary I would have to say Knights Grange really did let us down. The price may be it's only saving grace. However this doesn't condone such basic neglect in regards to the dress code, course markings and ground keeping. You can find much better courses in this area for a very similar price.

Greens need some work but apart from that the course is in good condition. Wind was more a factor.

Course overall is good, greens could do with a bit of TLC, patchy in places and bumpy, therefore making putting difficult, back 9 a lot better and more of a challenge

Very Good ex Municipal course excellent value for money with a reasonably flat first nine and a few hills and more challenges on the back nine.
Although advisable to book a tee time away from the usual busy times it is safe to turn up and not have to wait very long to play.

Well looked after course, one of the best municipicle courses I have played. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a fairly cheap round of golf.
