A good challenge
This is an interesting course and the highest in England. It was rather wet yesterday and windy on the top of the hills. The course was in good condition considering recent rain. The greens were true and a good speed but some of the fairways were unbelievably uneven making clean shots quite difficult when in the many hollows. You need to be quite fit as most holes go up or downhill. The clubhouse was friendly with good food and drinks.Reviewer Rating

So good I played it twice!
Stunning views and a spectacular location, this was one of my best days on a golf course. I was lucky to have chosen a perfect early autumn morning for my visit to England’s highest course, but it may have been very different in a strong wind. After 18 holes, I had a lunchtime break, learning some of the club history from a genial member, then went out for a second round.Fairways are the roughest and bumpiest I’ve seen, maintained only by the sheep whose droppings are all around, but I couldn’t help smiling as I played to the sound of complete silence except for the occasional ‘baa’!
Putting surfaces were better than I was expecting and much quicker, so chipping onto greens isn’t easy, especially those cut into the sloping hillside.
Despite being 1284ft above sea level, I found this an easy walk with much of the uphill part being between tees. Long will I remember the sweeping par 5, 14th, the steeply downhill par 3, 15th and the final hole over a gorge.... hit your driver at the flagpole, then watch it roll down towards the green!
I enjoyed a drink on the clubhouse balcony overlooking that 18th green as the sun went down.... what an awesome day!!
