two great golf courses both vey different in layout.
the sapphire course is the shorter of the two but is well protected with clever hazard placement and vert tricky undulating greens. Just hitting the green is not good enough round here you need to be accurate. the emerasld is a bit more open but as the name suggests it is very hilly so would recommend a buggy.

Excellent venue. Got a very good deal for B & B and 2 rounds including free buggy.
Emerald course beautifully presented, greens very receptive. Lots of mature trees with golf ball magnets in them so had a lousy score. 2nd day played the Sapphire, shorter course but good fun with par 3's over water.
Golf buggies has GPS which is brilliant.
Hotel virtually new. Snack prices OK but drinks expensive.
Overall a brilliant place for a couple of days away.

The golf course was quite wet when I played here but it came through well. The greens were catching and holding the balls but were still quite quick and very true. There are some really great holes here, no simple short iron par 3's or easily reachable par 5's. You really have to play well to hit a good score. Also great closing hole on this one, I risked everything for par, thinking it would get me through, almost chipped in for birdie but in the end the par still left me 1 point short of qualifying for Turnberry.

The shorter of the two Hill Valley courses is perhaps the most interesting with lots of good, undulating greens and well designed holes. Accuracy off the tee is imperative. As with the Emerald the bunkers and tees are in need of attention. We played in July and the greens and fairways were in very good condition.

Course played long and the fairways are narrow in places but a good test for low and middle handicap players. Greens needed a trim but the weather hadn't been good for a few days.
My only crititism is the lack of hazards in the course planner.
Good value for money with a well stocked pro shop.

DIFFERENT TYPE OF COURSE

With it switching between par 4 / 3 on every hole it really did allow for practice of short game on some challenging holes.

Two very different courses in Shropshire

The Emerald course was a challenge because of the slopes and long par 4's and 5's. Course had lot's of narrow fairways so accuracy was the key, There were a number of strategically placed bunkers and trees with some small streams and big ponds to navigate over. We watched a lot of players put their balls in the drink more than once with a lake just before the 18th green over looking the 19th hole. Didn't enjoy the Sapphire course as much as there was a lot of par 3's and much narrower fairways with all the trees in full bloom. You had to be able to hit consistently straight off the tee to survive this one!
If you want somewhere with two different courses that you can play and don't mind the sloping hills of Shropshire this could be the place for you.

Tough

Although the Sapphire Course is not particularly long and contains seven par 3s, it is still a very challenging test.

Good structure & set up of course, would need more tidy up
But a challenging course, staff friendly, But driving is restricted which is disappointing as it has two golf courses on site

Emerald Course

This is a longer course than the Sapphire and generally better maintained. Fairways were more forgiving, but you need to be able to hit some long shots. I don't agree with another reviewer that blind water hazards spoil the course - get a course guide and it's not a problem!
However whilst the greens were better than the Sapphire, there were still some in need of attention to deal with bare patches and disease. They should be able to sort this out with the help of a competent agronomist.
