Just returned from our second visit to Hill Valley on our now annual golf trip, as usual we played the short Sapphire course, on completion we checked in to the hotel.
We were greeted with the warmest of welcomes from the reception staff special thanks to Michelle, Nikki and Christine for their patience and excellent customer service.
The food was excellent as usual, everyone in our group complemented the quality of cuisine and the restaurant staff, again special thanks to Steph who attended to our table for the evening meal and the breakfast staff Debbie and the senior server ( I forgot his name), very professional and informative especially about the famous black pudding from the isle of Stornoway. which was excellent. Bar staff Annalisa and a special thanks to Ian for looking after us in the Masters bar, thanks for going that extra mile to make sure we were looked after on Sunday night watching Bubba win his second Masters.
Finally not forgetting the Pro shop staff Matt and Andrew for their exceptional service although we were only a small group of 12.
I can only thank you for your exceptional staff for their professionalism and whatever your training program is do not change it,
See you next April

Very NIce Course
I had played this course a number of years ago, but it has changed quite a bit and the facilities are very good, plus the staff are very helpful. They have a hole fly over facility which you can download to your phone, however my wife and I have Android phones and it did not work on them and as a lot of the greens are protected by burns we came a cropper on quite a few of them, but still a most enjoyable round.Reviewer Rating

Fantastic course worth visiting
The course itself is fantastic and worth visiting. The hotel is lovely and very suitable for your needs, clean and spacious. The food once arrived was nice but small portions. The pro shop and staff in there were brilliant and very accommodating. The biggest let down and very disappointingly so was the extreme slowness of the service of the hotel bar and catering staff. You could blame the current situation but it was appalling. Ruined the 4 day break for us.(Round played: May 2021 - Score: 113 Handicap: 18.8)

Lots of trees
One of the most challenging courses I have ever played. It's a par 73 with many trees and very tight off the tee so accuracy is very important. All bunkers were GUR due to the Corona situation . I suspect the bunkers if they had sand would have been difficult to play. There were quite a few and some very deep.Reviewer Rating

Fabulous
What a beautiful course, fantastic fairways, super fast greens, friendly staff in the pro shop; my first time playing here and I absolutely loved it. I'm a high handicapper but I can hit the ball straight, which is required due to the tight fairways. We got a deal on tee off times, ?15 for the round, but even at the usual ?45, it would have been a great experience. The only thing that let it down was the practice range and putting facilities.

Not my favourite course ever, but not the worst.Very hilly so if you dont have the legs you used to a buggy would be advised.
Nice mixture of holes.
I only played this course as I was staying in the area and to be fair if I was local again I would pay them a second visit.

Not one for high handicappers, our four ball was made up of 2 off 19, 1 off 24, and 1 off 26. 8 over won the day!

the sapphire course is the shorter of the two but is well protected with clever hazard placement and vert tricky undulating greens. Just hitting the green is not good enough round here you need to be accurate. the emerasld is a bit more open but as the name suggests it is very hilly so would recommend a buggy.

Emerald course beautifully presented, greens very receptive. Lots of mature trees with golf ball magnets in them so had a lousy score. 2nd day played the Sapphire, shorter course but good fun with par 3's over water.
Golf buggies has GPS which is brilliant.
Hotel virtually new. Snack prices OK but drinks expensive.
Overall a brilliant place for a couple of days away.

Lack of attention to detail
The course and hotel suffers from a serious lack of attention to detail, which is a shame as the layout and facilities could be very good indeed. Both courses are a good test but lacked that care and upkeep it needed around the entire site. The hotel had very friendly and courteous staff, the food was excellent but again the rooms whilst were nice and spacious needed that further updating and checking of cleanliness before re-occupying. I appreciate everything has to come out of a budget but a few little things add up to a big thing. The one over riding disappointment for me was the all too frequent option policy now by the owners to make the entire venue card payment only. I find that not only annoying but totally unnecessary and should be re-addressed. The weather didn't help our visit and in certain areas of the courses there was clear evidence of heavy vehicular traffic on it, again not good. For all that said the weekend was enjoyable as best it could be, I wouldn't recommend apart from the height of the summer maybe and that would be the only time I might consider a re-visit. For the Sunday round, like most venues it was very busy and slow play was frustrating especially in the rain and wind. The tuck shop was a pleasant surprise at the 10th tee but again stupidly only accepting card payments, which for a cup of coffee to get warm was and is ridiculous. There are better venues out there.Reviewer Rating
