Used to here here all the time- a while back now However was the first time back today and unfortunately it doesn't look like it's getting looked after. Tee areas where scuffed and also cans of stella on nearly every hole and tee box. Greens where patchy and rather long with mud bubbles all over and also the bunkers where just hard sand like concrete ( never ended up in a bunker tho) it's such a shame because it does have potential to be good however I shall not be returning for the foreseeable until it gets better.Reviewer Rating

Needs some TLC
Having not played at Throston for a number of years, I was interested to see the course after reading some mixed reviews. I was not aware that the course was under new management or the reasons why it seems to have been neglected. It was clear to see groundsmen working around the course, watering greens etc however there are a number of priority areas that need attention. Some of the greens were patchy, others had mushrooms and dandelions on them. Fairways probably just need a lot of water on them together with weedkiller. Yardage markers on the fairways were non existent. Bunkers need topping up with sand rather than the granular stuff that is in them. The concrete tee boxes showing hole numbers, yardage etc probably all need replacing. I have a lot of sympathy for whoever the new owner is as there are so many improvements to make I guess it is a question of priorities as to where to start. I understand there are plans to put in a bar which the club has never has but I would hope the course is improved first before this happens.£20 a round was probably a bit pricey considering the condition. It was clear to see the efforts being made , I will probably play the course again if only to see the improvements first hand.Reviewer Rating

Unsure.
Disappointed having had good reviews from others. Think the heavy wind may have tainted the course slightly for me, but cons amongst other things (in order of experiencing them); the green fees cannot be paid using a debit/credit card, the rough is SO thick, that I lost 4/5 balls today having only just missed the fairway, there are no yardage markers around the course making it difficult for a visitor, the layout of the holes is cramped to a point where on one occasion we played towards the 16th green from the 14th tee box mistakenly, the slow pace of play from other golfers on the course was drastic. With their being a wind turbine situated at the top end of the course, I imagine that wind it prevalent, and think there are only 3/18 holes where you play WITH the prevailing wind and the rest are into it or across it, which is quite challenging/frustrating.On the plus side, the condition of the fairways and greens was genuinely excellent given that i've had to play it due to my club being closed due to wet conditions. Will try again in the summer.

Great Course
haven't played the course for a couple of years, played today due to the booking nightmare for members at George Washington at the moment, and it was nice to be back. Course not in quite as good condition as I remember on the front nine, but back nine was great. Great course, good value, friendly and excellent views.(Round played: Aug 2020 - Score: 79 Handicap: 11.4)

Its shame as the course is not a bad layout but the condition is horrendous.
We will not be back even if it was free.
8 disappointed golfers.

Good Course
Course drains pretty well, which makes it an ideal winter choice, and was in pretty good condition. Some people seemed to have been unable to repair pitch marks and replace divots, but that's no fault of the course. Always good value and some spectacular views.(Round played: Apr 2018 - Score: 85 Handicap: 12.5)

The course was a very good one for first time golfers. Good open fairways but could do with tee boxes being improved also the greens need a little improvement too. Would have been better at the time if the club house was open. Would recommend this course to all friends very enjoyable.
