Like a Patchwork Quilt
Not been to this course for 3 years, but decided to give it a go today, BOY do I wish I saved my money. The whole course was scruffy, every fairway and green was a patch work, after 5 holes, I was so dissapointed, I left. Save your money, travel to Wynyard, Stokesley, MIddlesbororugh or Saltburn, they are one hundred times better than the state of this course.Reviewer Rating

Poorly kept
Price has increased with nonwzrningvwhen z tee time was booked. Now £25 per rond on a weekend. Greens are very poor, patchy with mushrooms growing on them. Fairways were patchy and long, in somdxareas you could barely notice the differrnce between fairways and rough.Reviewer Rating

Greens
The course was fine but the greens were really bad it’s like putting on a cobbled street and the bunkers were just hard and full of stones and hired a buggy rip off price £30 all other clubs average £20 per roundReviewer Rating

Its shame as the course is not a bad layout but the condition is horrendous.
We will not be back even if it was free.

Price Increase
Price increase after lockdown during week to £20. Expensive for a course in such poor condition imo. Better courses around locally for lower prices(Round played: May 2020 - Score: 87 Handicap: 12.9)

Neglected by owners and players
Played this course often in the past when I first started golf and thought it was great. Now I’ve played many more courses I realise how poor it is. Having played today I felt the need to leave a review. Pace of play was poor as for some reason they allowed a 5 ball on the course a few groups ahead of us. The tee boxes are not cut, it’s like teeing off from the grass in your local park. The bunkers are neglected and look like they haven’t been raked in weeks, by either other players or the greenskeepers, with some having bricks and dirt in them which look like GUR but haven’t been marked as GUR. Greens were slow with very long grass with far too many pitch marks left and not repaired. No many slopes in the green, just plenty of bobbles, not running true. The rough was far too long, which I don’t think was intentional to make the course more difficult, simply laziness. Some parts of the rough which was cut still had the cuttings laying on the top of the grass. I think players don’t respect the course because they know the owners clearly don’t look after it. Not worth the green fee compared to other courses in the area slightly more expensive but much better conditions. The course does have some good holes, which if the conditions were improved would be great, but are let down by the poor conditions.Reviewer Rating

I have played this course a few time all be it a few years ago. I was telling my friends who have never played the course how good it was, I explained it did not have a club house but that was not a problem. What a disappointment talk about courses going downhill. Tee boxes? What tee boxes it was like teeing up in the semi rough and as for the greens it was like putting on a badly kept fairway.
At £17 a round I think we were robbed.
I will never recommend this course again and I definitely won’t be playing it again.

Needs some TLC
Having not played at Throston for a number of years, I was interested to see the course after reading some mixed reviews. I was not aware that the course was under new management or the reasons why it seems to have been neglected. It was clear to see groundsmen working around the course, watering greens etc however there are a number of priority areas that need attention. Some of the greens were patchy, others had mushrooms and dandelions on them. Fairways probably just need a lot of water on them together with weedkiller. Yardage markers on the fairways were non existent. Bunkers need topping up with sand rather than the granular stuff that is in them. The concrete tee boxes showing hole numbers, yardage etc probably all need replacing. I have a lot of sympathy for whoever the new owner is as there are so many improvements to make I guess it is a question of priorities as to where to start. I understand there are plans to put in a bar which the club has never has but I would hope the course is improved first before this happens.£20 a round was probably a bit pricey considering the condition. It was clear to see the efforts being made , I will probably play the course again if only to see the improvements first hand.Reviewer Rating

Used to here here all the time- a while back now However was the first time back today and unfortunately it doesn't look like it's getting looked after. Tee areas where scuffed and also cans of stella on nearly every hole and tee box. Greens where patchy and rather long with mud bubbles all over and also the bunkers where just hard sand like concrete ( never ended up in a bunker tho) it's such a shame because it does have potential to be good however I shall not be returning for the foreseeable until it gets better.Reviewer Rating
