Don’t play here, I played here a few years ago and it was a lovely to play, not anymore . The fairways were decent but the greens were the worst I’ve ever played on including pitch and putt courses. There were holes, every putt bobbled and jumped and some had donut tyre marks due to yobs driving their motorbikes on the course and greens. One green was completely closed due the damage it had. I also had a child pinch my ball from the fairway on one hole.
Safe to say I will not be returning, not even if you paid me. Save your money and play somewhere else.

Windy day and greens were really bobbly the course as been changed slightly for what reason I don't know really need to tend the greens and Tee boxes although at £10 good value compared to some(Round played: Jun 2020 - Score: 90 Handicap: 10.9)

fluffy greens
this course could be so much better with a large investment of cash and a little re jigging. The greens today were very fluffy and very slow, green keepers were out trimming the rest of the course that was in quite good nick. Tee boxes really need some attention(Round played: Aug 2019 - Score: 81 Handicap: 10.6)

Course very good front 9 then what I believe course competition at the weekend the back 9 greens had been sanded and put on winter greens spoiled a good day will not play here again disgusted

That previous review was a fantastic piece of advertising from the secretary, well done sir.
Nice clubhouse with decent food, but we arn't playing golf in the clubhouse!
The course is well kept and in pretty good order. Holes are not too challenging though. The greens are ok but there are much better around locally. Not the most scenic of courses, motorway, bolton hospial and a large housing estate are perhaps the best of the views. Had a decent round there only slightly spoiled by some very slow play infront of us. The tradition of letting people play through seems to be forgotten in farnworth.

We played with a junior member. At the time the course had lots of holes closed and we're using fairway mats (not provided)Members on the course were not helpful they were rather judgemental to guests. One par 3 had a large hole/trench dug out on the left hand side of the green. This should have been closed.

Poor Greens
The rough is thick and you will struggle to find ball if you are off fairways which are very good. The greens are not so good and I'm unsure if they have had a problem or two. Remember to update any GPS watch you have as its altered over the past few years and dont forget you have to cross a very busy main road twice.Difficult to say if I'd recommend, depens where you currently play and the standard you expect.

what's happened here then

basic but pleasant

Great value and very peaceful.
My partner and I both enjoyed our first game this year at the Great Lever and Farnworth course. However, signage was poor especially as the new layout was new to players who had visited in the past. Our biggest gripe was however the condition of the greens. I know the hot weather has played havoc with grass but it is difficult to putt with many patches of grass missing.Reviewer Rating

OK
It's an OK course. A few nice holes, especially around the middle of the back 9I particularly liked the dog leg 12th by the M61, but it's a hole I've seen hundreds of times & always wanted to play.
In pretty good nick for this time of year, except for the greens which were very bumpy & pock marked. I'll definitely play again, but probably late next year to see if they can sort the greens out. (Round played: Apr 2018 - Score: 84 Handicap: 16.2)

Course in good nick did not see why they were still on winter greens even though they said they were not must be saving them for opening day can not blame them.

This is my local course and one Im happy to return to! Always a friendly welcome whether in the pro shop or the club house afterwards. The course itself has always been well maintained when we have visited in the past. For me this course is about risk and reward and it offers it in perfect balance. Too greedy of the tee and you can be punished. Play too cautiously and you could regret it at the end of your round! In the club house after its never ceases to amaze me how we talk of what could or should have been, its just one of them courses!
