As for the course itself, it's hard to fault. The tees, greens and fairways were in great condition for March, and there are some lovely looking holes here.
The front 9 is okay, but it's on the back 9 where the best holes are. You will have a bit of a climb up to the 12th green first, but once up there you'll get some wonderful views and some great holes. The standout is probably the par 4 18th, which drops 400 feet from tee to green, but both par 5's on the back deserve a mention too.
Give Gloucester a go. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it.

Lovely course
I haven't played every course between Gloucester and Bristol but I have played them all when green fees have been under or around the £20 mark.I consider this in the top 3 courses I have played in the area with Cotswold Edge & Stockwood Vale being in the mix for the top step. However I have played it for the first time today for the first time since October 2018 despite it being the closest course to my place of work, because they've been desperate to gain money back after the COVID 19 pandemic and basically priced themselves out of the budget golfer's market (similar to Thornbury).
However this autumn they have brought their green fees down, back to where they were three years ago.
The changes they have made work well. It is a shame they have removed the horse shoe par 5 but it probably is the sensible hole to remove as many par 4 holes reward long hitters of the golf ball. This course requires a range of skills.fades, draws and low, high shots because of the delightful variety of holes. The views throughout the course are beautiful, however the back 9 (hole12/13) have some of the best views over Gloucester you're going to find away from Painswick Beacon.
It probably isn't a course you would play for a golfing holiday but if you live within an hour or are traveling past, you can;t go wrong here. It is close enough to the motorway to feel like you're not making a massive detour. I would recommend playing here, it is truly a lovely course.
I'm putting

Worth it
Nice course hilly back 9. Front 9 good challenge and back nine up the steep 10th to some sloppy fairways and a great view down the hill on the 18th.(Round played: Jul 2018 - Score: 91 Handicap: 28)

It is a VERY tough walk from the 12th onwards due to the sometimes extreme changes in elevation. At the top of the hill you have a fantastic view of the area

Fantastic course
This is an underrated golf course in the area.I appreciate some golfers don't like hills but really there is only 2 holes where you're going up hill. The 11th (par 3 which is the green turf is currently being relayed and is playing a temp green) and 12. The rest is short walks between green and tee. The views at the top can only be topped by Painswick & Cleeve Hill in the local area.
The course was in superb condition, the green were very fast for October and got inside my head a little. I really enjoy the layout of the course, although you have the option to bash driver at almost every tee shot, personally I prefer not too and I feel this course allows for a more tactical golfer to reap rewards for hanging back off the tee, this is especially true for the back 9.
I really enjoy playing here, I wish I could play more often.
I have never eaten here, my food and drink rating is based on cider and crisp + 2

Recently played for the first time since 4 years ago (Covid ETC) and what a difference! Course is in fantastic condition, greens are excellent and can see ongoing work happening! If I lived closed I would definitely join but unfortunately can only play when I'm in Gloucestershire for work. Spoke to Nikki in the Pro Shop and the Bar and she couldn't of been more helpful and friendly.Used to enjoy the course but around 8/9 years ago it started to look tired but on my most recent visit was informed of new Head and Course Greenkeepers who have done great job! The recent renovations of opening holes so you can view other holes (I think its hole 11 (the par 3 up hill) can now view I think hole 15 or 16). Would recommend a visit and can't wait to return! Thanks all.

a great day out
Our "syndicate" of 10 enjoyed a great day out at Gloucester Golf Club yesterday. Being a mix of 9 holers and 18 holers, drinkers, walkers and players, Ellie and Keith accommodated our complex requests. We had a great day on immaculate greens and well-groomed fairways. The whole package - driving range, putting green, cafe and great views all at an affordable price.Reviewer Rating
