Tried this course last week. Staff very friendly, but the course is a strange one. You need hiking boots as oppose to golf shoes with hills to help you sleep, and there is no direction on where any hole is.
This course is definitely one for the more experienced!!!

The first thing to accept with this course is that its cheap to play (18 holes or joining as a member), so you can't expect a high level course for low cost.

Having played the course last week, I think the best word that describes it is 'inconsistent'. No two greens played to the same pace making it impossible to 'get your eye in' with the putter. Green keeping must be done sparingly as the fairways were baked and rock solid, while many of the greens had huge cracks indicating significant neglect.

A couple of par 5's at around 460 yards leaves you a bit puzzled when you reach the par 3 18th at 180 yards (about right for pro golfers, but for club/bogey golfers? I'm not so sure).

A nice club house with attentive staff, good food and drinks show that this is a club with a healthy amount of hidden potential. Give a well qualified and experienced greenskeeper a couple of years to work his or her magic on the course and this could be a challenging but rewarding £20-£30 per round course with top value for money.

Overal, I'd say its a course with lots on hidden potential

A very pleasant place to play golf. Lovely countryside all around. The course is classic parkland with trees and streams all around to contend with. All the holes have some feature without any being spectacular. In short if you want a very enjoyable game on a sound well kept course, which always gives you something to think about and has some very tricky greens, get yourself to Garesfield.

Played this one in the summer, magnificent but very very difficult and tight. We played four of the "top north east courses" plus this one as an add on. It turned out to be the best by far, beautiful views and very very good tricky greens.
No pro shop otherwise would have given it full marks.
This sticks in my memory as one of the great courses I've played but couldn't keep my handicap down there if I played it everyday of the year!

Played on Sunday 10th April. Course is beautiful with some fantastic views, and was in great condition. At £20 on a Sunday, I also think that this is a real bargin. Members really friendly, and a course I would love to play again. Quite hilly, which gives some great tee positions, and also makes for a good workout!
