Magnificent
Absolutely stunning as a course, never played before but always wanted to, enjoyed the challenge of tight fairways, hundreds of bunkers and great greens it’s a round you need to be accurate and think your way around. We really enjoyed it
Only downside it’s a tad pricey but as a treat why not

The Ultimate Golfing Challenge in Gusty Wind
We got lucky with the rainy weather easing and the wind gusting up so that the course bared its teeth and became a great challenge for us mid handicappers. The fairways were good (despite hearing bad reports) and the greens were tremendous. We ended up in a few of the bunkers where our head was below the lip, which was good for the experience, but generally played well and avoided them. Probably the ultimate challenge because the course plays fairer than the Open links venues, the difference is the fairways run true and don’t have the random bumps you can get in links, shooting good shots off into rough or bunkers. The wind was brutal though, gusting around and several times we had 50 yards of sideways movement from only slightly faded shots. If you accidentally go left or right you are punished - as you should be.
A few holes offered particular challenges. A few good risk reward short par 4s, easy to lay up but potentially brutal if too ambitious. Several doglegs where depending on your length the straight shot may play better than trying a big fade or draw around the corner - risk reward again. The 18th is a great closer, particularly if needing a par - drive too far left and although on the fairway a huge hook may be needed around a big tree.
The starter and pro shop were friendly, the clubhouse though was old fashioned and a big disappointment. A small lounge with phone numbers on the tables to order drinks or food from the kitchen in a socially distanced way (a modern open plan bar area would have been better). The beer was ordinary and we only had one and made an exit.
The course furniture was minimal, which added to the atmosphere, but did make it tricky knowing where to go (though the next tee is fairly obvious throughout). Coloured tee posts with the stroke index on (but not the hole) are the only furnishings.
Finally, we had the unique experience of watching a greenkeeper change the hole position while we waited - never seem that during an afternoon before, and those sideways moving green ironing ride-ons, I gotta get me one of those!

Save your Money & go elsewhere
We played this course a couple of weeks ago.The reason for my delay in posting this review is because I have been waiting for a reply from the secretary & manager. I sent in an email providing feedback about our visit. In my opinion we should have been told about the infestation of Craneflies so that we could have either played somewhere else or defer our visit. Our day was spoiled and I felt that they needed to know.At the very least I expected an acknowledgement but nothing, not a thing!Ganton is certainly not worth the green fees being charged.

Bucket List Course
Fortunate to have now played Ganton several times - yes it's out of the way but make the trip, you won't be disappointed. Different to most courses you'll play, feels like a links course in places with the sand/gorse, feels parkland elsewhere with the trees/pheasants. some great holes.Reviewer Rating

Great history, but ?110 ?
When you arrive at Ganton GC its almost like you can feel the history oozing from the clubhouse and the neatly cared for course as you drive between the holes on the approach. We were greeted by the Club Secretary, who was a lovely guy, and we proceeded to pay our ?110 each for a round on a course which seemed completely empty. Having prepared for the no shorts unless you have long socks on rule (need reviewing for summer) we came suitably dressed unlike some of the other chaps arriving who had to change. The course itself is immaculate, the tees and greens absolutely lovely. The bunkers are very very deep and need avoiding. We were very surprised that the course didn't seem to have many "signature" type holes for the money we were paying. I personally was really disappointed on the 18th tee when a groundsman who was blowing away leaves right next to the tee box did not stop as we went to tee off, on a course such as this that is just unacceptable. He seemed disinterested in the golfers ... etiquette is something you expect lots of on a course with such history. Anyway, overall our experience was good, but for ?110 we expected it to be amazing and contend with some of the other expensive courses we have played like the Brabazon (much better) and Hollinwell (best ever). We would only ever return if we paid much less, just like the golfers we met at various East Coast courses in the days afterwards who could not believe we paid ?110 each.Reviewer Rating

Worth a visit
Worth a visit with some tight fairways and tricky greens. It's a bit like a Links course, some of the greens were not upto standard for the price. Only downside for me was the last holes are played over the road which I didn't like.Definitely course knowledge is a must.
