Possibly the "Most challenging" of Frilford Heaths 3 courses...pretty long for me 24hcap..but a great course which is fair ...good condition considering the recent downpours we have had...with only a little standing water. I played pretty good and managed 32pts ..
?30 guest fee when playing with a member...club house undergoing refurbishment at present but can still be a bit "old school"...for me not the place to come if arranging a society..but to play with a member worth doing.

First time playing the Green Course, having been told by the Pro shop staff member that it was the best draining; I'm glad we weren't playing either of the others, as there was standing water on fairways (and a couple of greens). One particularly bad pin position had the hole and the surrounding couple of feet under water - but then again it was raining for the first 16 holes! Other than that, the bunkers were in good order, although, again drainage was a problem in a couple of them. Fairways seemed a little long, and greens were OK where there was no water standing. Only one par 5 (the first hole), so whilst it seems to be a short course, there are some very long par 4's (especially when it's so wet there is no run on the ball). It was also a windy day, which didn't help anyone's scoring. On a positive note, from paying £11 EACH for the Red and Blue Course Guides in 2017, there has been a change of ownership (apparently), and the Green Course Guide only cost £5. Staff looked after us very well, and the fish and chips for lunch and afternoon sandwiches and tea were very good.

Played as part of a winter package, really good value especially compared to the summer rates. Course played very fair and was in good condition, really enjoyable day at Frilford Heath.

This was a change of venue for a regular spring meeting, and my first time playing anywhere in Oxfordshire. I had heard good things and was not disappointed.

We played 18 holes on the Red Course, followed by 9 holes on the Blue Course. The Green Course on the day was having considerable greenkeeper work being carried out. The Red Course was in good condition, well maintained, although it looked like a herd of deer had been around, and some of their number had been through some of the bunkers. Having visited a couple of bunkers, they were well stocked with sand, which was quite heavy, but if you played the shot properly, the sand was consistent. Greens had quite a few tricky slopes, and the pin positions seemed to be well chosen, with probably 6 easy, 6 medium and 6 hard. The most notable thing I found was that hole to hole, the direction changed regularly, so it was hard to get used to the wind, as we didn't play two holes in a row where it was helping or hindering, from left or from right! This certainly added to the challenge of a fairly long course.

The greens were a very consistent pace, although one of our members said they were slower than when he visited in October 2016, but they were good for the time of year (March). Tees and fairways were very well maintained.

In the clubhouse, the staff were very friendly, with the new director of golf coming to welcome out party before we had lunch. The catering staff themselves had been on hand from our bacon rolls at 7.30, all the way through lunch and then afternoon tea. We originally had a 2 hour + gap for lunch, but were allowed to go out early in the afternoon, which suited all of us, although the lunch was substantial and that seemed to affect the afternoon scoring!

I bought yardage books from the Pro shop, which proved very useful, although these were the most expensive I have ever bought at any club at ?8.00 each! They were also not as up-to-date as the Pro advised me, as I spotted at least 1 hole on each of the courses we played where new bunkering (visible from the tee) was not in the books.

Played the red course this morning and the green in the afternoon through Frilford's winter warmer package deal for £50 a person. I'd heard a lot of good things about Frilford Golf club but I didn't excpect it to be the absolute pleasure it was. The scenery around the course is stunning, you won't find a prettier golf course around for miles. The fairways were immaculate, the greens fast and true, challenging and rewarding with birdies to be had. Unfortunately my putting let me down whereas my 2 playing partners who play off 18 and 17 shared 5 birdies between them but I can't grumble at 21 pars. I'd have to say the green course was my favourite but the red is stunning with a very old fashioned feel. The winter warmer package deal also included coffee on arrival and a brunch which was a full english breakfast and was very good. Everyone at Frilford were so friendly and welcoming from the people in the pro shop to the guys in the bar and the members. What really topped off a great day was when the general manager came in to the bar to personally see my group and see how we got on and enjoyed the course and had a drink with us.
All in all Frilford has already become my favourite place to play and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what their blue course has to offer and see if I can convert those birdie chances.

Nice winter track but be prepared to wait!

A buddy and I recently visited Frilford Heath as we were looking for somewhere playable in mid winter (12/01/2024). The club house and Pro Shop are both very nice and all the staff were very friendly and polite. The red course was in great condition considering all the rain of late and we all found the course a good challenge and would certainly recommend the mid week winter deal were you get a bacon butty and hot drink thrown in for £55. Now, our group did have a few gripes - Firstly, although we had been given a tee time, there is no tee times as such! This means the 1st tee had 15 to 20 people or stood in the freezing cold waiting to tee off, this obviously is not ideal in the depths of winter and a waste of peoples time getting there for an allocated time, given when booking, as this time means nothing in reality! We actually arrived at the 1st 15 minutes prior to out slot and tee'd off 15 minutes late, so had to stand around watching other go off in the cold! Also, the on course signage is poor and it is easy to get onto the wrong course, as there are 3, mid round. Finally there is a lack of bins on tee's, only a silly gripe but as this is such a nice course and venue its something we felt let it down. That said, we would like to revisit in the summer.

Spectacular

Went as a society and played the Red and Green courses and thoroughly enjoyed our day. From the moment we arrived it looked amazing. The two courses were spectacular, challenging and beautifully laid out. The red more difficult with brutal rough if you went offline, plot your way round. The green a little easier and shorter but still a test. Brilliant greens and tee boxes and fair test between the two. The chaps in the golf shop friendly and helpful. The staff serving the food and drinks always with a smile were a delight and credit to the golf club. The food delicious. Could have some tee directions on the red but still Highly recommended.
