Municipal course, premium price

Judging by their membership fees and comparing them to other local courses that are of a premium quality, you’d expect FHGC to be another premium Leicestershire course. Not so

Recently cut rough left in clumps off the fairways, making it nigh on impossible to find an errant shot

The greens are ridiculously pony- there are municipal courses you can play on that have less weeds on them

I’ve never seen weeds/grass growing out of the middle of bunkers before in my life, but you can see them here!

Lack of sand in the bunkers is shocking too

Pace of play- being stuck behind a 5 ball who can’t hack it more than 30 yards a time

We all know FH have lost members by the 100s due to all the above and the ridiculous increase in member fees. This has paved a way for newer golders to join, and because Forest Hill are desperate to up the membership numbers, they’re accepting anyone of every standard

This review may sound quite snobby, but it really was appalling. The club have set the prices, so my expectations were set to match those prices. If you don’t agree with the fact golfers should be better than hitting the ball 30 yards every time, then you can still have an etiquette. However…

Don’t worry about tucking your T-shirt in, don’t worry about taking your electric trolley over the red tees. Don’t worry about playing slow and not letting players through. Don’t worry about repairing your pitch marks

It’s such a shame, the course is challenging, and more picturesque than the courses it wants to compete against. It just fails miserably in everything else.

After walking off on 13, we requested a refund which was rejected. We in turn rejected their offer of a free 9 hole voucher because we’ll never come back here again.

Time for the owners to concentrate on rescuing the golf club instead of prioritising the overpriced driving range.

Green keepers on strike?

The course is a great course layout wise but it's been left to ruin. The rough is nearly knee height and has the grass they've previously cut everywhere. The fairways are absolutely shocking and the bunkers are full of weeds. There?s no water in the bell cleaners and the greens are patchy. DO NOT spend money here.

Down hill

Played Forest Hill today (16/05/18) for the first tine in a couple of years. We as a group were extremely disappointed in the course. It was in a poor state compared to previous visits with the fairways unkempt and the greens virtually unplayable. Would not visit again im a hurry.

Club facilities very good..friendly. the course is long ..greens ok ..but the course needs some work on it ..various bunkers had stones or .very little sand..tee areas need some work. .not worth 18 pounds when you can play Horsley lodge Derbyshire and springwater Nottingham for fifteen..both are in great condition.

Poor greens

The shop is well stocked and the young chap in there was very polite and helpful.
Whilst we’ve had a lot of rain recently the course generally was mostly dry. The greens however were a joke. What ever possessed the green staff to think driving across them to feed them after all the recent rain leaving deepntyre tracks is bemusing!

Poor condition

Fairways were at time indistinguishable from the rough. Other than that played ok. Greens were in good condition.

Wet day in leicestershire

On a wet day the course was not at its best, the lay out was good but long wet grass made it a bit hard. Would like to come back on a dry xday when fairways had been cut and no grass laying around

The course is an excellent layout and provides a very good test for your game. We had not played here since last year and were very disappointed with the greens which were bone dry and very sandy. If you tried to land a pitch it would just bounce off the back. We were hoping the course would be in tip top condition for the start of the season and won't rush back.

Would have been nice to be informed at time of booking that's the greens were like playing on a beach, the bunkers were similar to building sites and the grass on the fairways was like playing out of the rough at many other courses.

Greens very poor due to work being carried out which was disappointing - not sure how good they would be normally!? Tees in poor condition! Fairways not as "grassed" as would expect

TBO i was very disappointed with the course.

Both the fairways and greens were not cut very well and the greens were very slow and spongey.
The general care for the course seemed low with pathways left un-cut and signs between holes no where to be seen.

Positives are that the course has a lot of potential if maintained and cared for and there is an excellent bar serving food after a round.

Sadly for £30 a round i will not be returning for a long while and would only be willing to if the cost was about £12 as iv play council run courses in better condition and for half the price.

Rant over with!!

The course is poorly laid out and even more poorly maintained. There are lots of tee positions that leave you in danger of being struck by balls from different tees/fairways/driving range. The greens on the 3 new holes are in shocking condition too.

Starting to soften

A fair bit of rain meant that the greens were holding quite a lot of water. On the lower part of the course it was a case of pick in place on the on the fairways and also the greens. We were only told that the ninth and 18th greens were temporary when we got there (which wasn't a problem) as they were doing drainage work. The lowering sun meant that both flight was a bit of an issue, luckily we had a fourball.
