Challenging course
Review in August 2022.This is the most challenging course in Eastbourne and has spectacular views of surrounding area and the sea. General course condition is good except the bunkers which are currently in need of repair and more sand; the greens are excellent, checkout the second which has synthetic fibres woven into the renovated green.
If the conditions are benign it is a still a good test for the all golfers; good course management is required off the tee and many approaches are from sloping lies.
Green fees are reasonable and the clubhouse facilities are good; definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful scenery, tricky course
First time at Eastbourne Downs. Weather was kind - gentle breeze which is unusual for the cliff-top position. Amazing views on a clear sunny day. Fairways in great condition on natural chalk downland turf, despite a lot of rain over recent weeks. Greens also look great but were very slow compared to the courses I usually play on - took some getting used to! lots of undulating and sloping greens, which is a great challenge and makes every hole interesting.Reviewer Rating

Great Downlands Links Course
I've played here a few times in the past, so much so that I decided to join in 2023.Its a great course with spectacular views and plays differently each time you play it, subject to the wind direction.
The fairways and greens are always in great condition and I'm looking forward to my next round there.

Exposed!
I played here the day after Storm Francis and it was still really windy, and we quickly found out that there are few places on this course that give you much shelter outside of the clubhouse. I'm certainly happy I played here though, as this is a really lovely course with some really pretty holes. The downhill 5th and 6th holes are both very pleasant on the eyes, although these certainly aren't the only ones, and there are plenty of gorgeous views of the South Downs and over Eastbourne. The fairways are generally fairly generous, so it's a course that will suit all handicaps, and the greens were looking really good. This isn't a flat course, but it didn't seem to be overly strenuous either. There is a bit of a climb up to the par 3 12th though.
I'll certainly look to go back again soon. Maybe not when it's quite so windy though

Mr. CHRIS SELLINGS
Time to bring reviews up to date. I re joined "up top" this year over the other options locally that are nearly 35% - 45% more expensive and are not 35% - 45% better course conditions, friendlier, well organised, nicer place to play golf( its in the South Downs National Park) or more inclusive of social status ie zero snobbery. The club is run by passionate people who want to bring golf to the masses. Green fees are excellent value without being signed in by a member and membership rates are probably the best value in Sussex. Playable all year. Grass tees in winter and greens are good still in January.
Food is served all day. The catering staff are eager to please and welcome all who want to stop for something to eat and drink. Walkers are a common sight now enjoying afternoon tea and cake. The views around the tough but fair course are fantastic and a little time extra on the round to take them in is highly recommended. Plenty of strategically placed benches between holes to enjoy the moment. Recent concerted efforts by way of extensive bi annual greens renovations by the greens keepers are bringing the course back to its former glory and above. I couldn't be happier with my choice to re join and would recommend joining or paying green fees to anyone who enjoys playing golf rather than bragging about where they play and what their latest driver can do compared to their last one. A golf club for golfers.
