Neglected Wasteland Unworthy of the Price

Sinfin Golf Club has become an utter disaster under its new ownership. The once-respected course is now a wasteland, where the greens are scarred beyond repair, riddled with divots, and practically devoid of grass. Playing here feels like an exercise in frustration. The tee boxes are so poorly maintained, they might as well be on a ski slope—good luck finding your footing, let alone taking a stable shot without slipping.

The bunkers? Forget it. They’re filled with compacted clay, making them nearly impossible to play out of. And as for the ditches, they’re more like dumping grounds, littered with rusty bikes and abandoned pushchairs—honestly, it feels like you’re wandering through a junkyard instead of a golf course. The overall scruffiness of the place is staggering, and it’s clear that absolutely no care or pride is taken in its upkeep.

Despite these appalling conditions, Sinfin Golf Club still clings to its old SIV branding, like some relic from a bygone era. Meanwhile, the clubhouse is a joke. It’s trying to charge Waitrose prices while offering a Tesco Express experience—if you consider microwaved bacon “experience” at all. It’s absurd.

The most disturbing part, though, is the unchecked vandalism. Local troublemakers, some in balaclavas, rip out flagsticks, snap bunker rakes, and generally run wild, adding a layer of chaos to the already grim atmosphere. Since Link Golf took over, they’ve not just mismanaged the club—they’ve gutted its soul. What once had charm and community has become an overpriced, rundown dump.

For the absurd price of a tee time, you’d be far better off heading to Morley Hayes. At least there, you’ll actually find a course that’s playable. Sinfin is, simply put, a disgrace to golf.

I've been playing here for ages and dire accurately describes the conditions you will find. Some grass to be found on both greens and tees, but plenty of mud. Many tees are either up hill or down hill withe the ball above or below your feet. Taken over several months ago by Link Golf who reckon it'll be a "premier destination in the area" is beyond fanciful. I understand that the resident Derby Golf Club have abandoned qualifiers because of the dreadful standard of the course.

If only you could keep the locals out the course would rate higher. On last 3-4 holes kids had got on from local estate and stole the flags... such a pity as the course deserves better.

Decent course, pricey for a council run, greens can be poor, as well as players with no etiquette e.g slow play.

Very muddy in places but drying out. Greens are not good, ball is jumping around on simple putts, still on winter tees, not happy with that at all.

Poor but it's close. £19 for a poor council course is too steep. Rather travel further and pay the same or even less at a proper golf club

First impressions are a little rough. However, the course is laid out well and has a good mixture of holes. The condition of the course was not good and we had to play off winter tees and two holes had winter greens. The fairways were not well maintained either.
