Arrived keen and early from London on the Saturday morning for a 12.30 tee only for tee times to be pushed back 1.5 hours with no explanation. (No signs on arrival to indicate where the actual golf course is and you end up having to trek around the whole large complex hoping to see a few clues). Excitement was replaced with a hanging around an airport lounge feeling. Played the Lakes course first. Greens were good but that's the limit of my praise. Tee boxes were appalling and it was hard to make out fairways from the rough on several holes especially on the front 9. Main gripe was that the pace of play was tediously slow, 5 hours + and with delayed start last few groups finished in dismal light and with no time for a livener before the set meal. The bar was under-staffed which meant slow service and a very grubby/messy feel. Set meals were boring, of poor quality and quantity which even a thrown in bottle of wine couldn't improve. Sunday we played the Woodside course. On the positive side, going out early meant the pace of play was good. Besides that its just quite dull and pretty straightforward. Nothing noteworthy. Lunch afterwards which was not good. £16 for an average burger and about 5 chips. Some of the marketing material out refer to BW as a golfers paradise and championship quality. In reality and maybe due to the hype, it is just disappointing.

a very poor experience, Lakes would be a great name for the state of the fairways, basically unplayable on the fairways. Looks like this needs shutting for a fair amount of time to repair the damage to the fairways. Completely sodden and basically just mud. That's the problem with these hotel courses, looks like millions spent on the a ridiculous size hotel but zero on the course and drainage. Bunkers were a great combination of stone and water with approximately 5 grains of sand in each. A lot of holes and patches missing out of the fairways with no gut signs. Greens to be fair to the course were in good condition. How they can charge £18 for this on tee times is a joke. One of the worst courses I've played in a long time. Do yourself a favour and play belton park if you want a course there.

Dissapointing

Following decent reviews and a number of conversations with the hotel, we felt our golf weekend could still be enjoyable despite COVID. Lakes and Woods courses both good with lots of challenges and the two starters were excellent and gave good advice on what to avoid. Greens were excellent but tee's were awful on both courses, felt like no one had looked after them for six months. Hotel however, was dreadful with miserable staff, shabby facilities and no grasp on the COVID situation at times.

Very tough and slightly plain start to the round but some good holes in there too with enjoyable closing stretch. Greens had just been treated when we played so difficult to judge, but general condition reasonable for time of year. Worth playing once if staying for the weekend and holds up reasonably well as the less premier course. Other onsite facilities great, but by a distance the worst service we’ve had at any onsite stay and play venue - every day our tee times were moved from the original booking as was dinner reservation, long wait for food and terrible quality food throughout our stay. Too many people packed in for them to cope with also has knock on effect to a slow round on the course.

Very well kept with excellent greens, but sadly not as good as they would have you believe. A strong wind on the day made some of the holes with water a nightmare for us mortal higher handicappers, with absoultely no chance of reaching some of the holes in regulation and almost a certainty to find one of the ponds.
Very nice hotel, but bar and food prices a little too much for my liking.
My view may be soured slighty by my abysmal performance over a weekends worth of golf, but I don't think massively so!

I was most disappointed with the state of both courses. The greens were rock hard: any pitch marks were shallow and often left un-repaired so the surface was very uneven. They seem to have real problems growing grass on the clay soil. The fairways are very patchy and the bunker edges and green-side fringes are very sparse. Finally the bunkers are a joke with little sand and what is there is very coarse. Overall, not a course they should be proud of. They need to invest a lot in growing the grass to a better standard with a lot of top dressing.

Condsidering belton woods(the woodsidecourse) is ment to be a championship courses it wasn't very challenging or in good condition.Condsidering all the rain we had for thr first part of the year. The greens were very patchy and not as well kept as some of our local courses, the fareways were very dry and hard, also there was hardly any sand in the bunkers and which ment you couldn't take sand so very difficult to get out of (the lakes course)was in a bit better condition and more challenging.Course management was needed, more than get the driver out and wack a-away lots of water and hazards here so beware!Would not pay the full price for a round here would rather play a local course.

Tricky venue with rubbish bunkers

The course was very nice and the layout was good. The clubhouse was very comfortable if not a little expensive. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent. The downsides were fast tricky greens with what appeared to be crowned holes were a slow putt fell away at the last minute, very frustrating. The play was also very slow as if there were too many players allowed on the course at once, which rings alarm bells of sheer greed. The worse part was the bunkers, they were unplayable as bunkers as there didn't appear to be much if any sand in them. You couldn't play a proper bunker shot as you just bounced off the gravel and dust in them, very disappointing. On the whole for what you pay for the visit it simply wasn't good enough. Couldn't honestly recommend it and probably won't return.

A very tough course

A very tough course made even harder by rainy weather. The layout is very challenging to say the least. Accurate and straight hitting is a must here. The tees, fairways and greens were in good condition but I have to say the greens were very slow to play. As for the hospitality - friendly, great food and drink but far too expensive as is the shop and its contents, a bottled drink and a chocolate bar never needs to be £4.50 !! It is not called the lakes for no reason as the multitude of them claimed 5 of my balls !! Nice to play once in a while but not regularly for me anyway. Shame about the whole experience.

Good course, avoid the clubhouse.

Would play there again but will avoid the clubhouse as the food was grossly overpriced and of a very poor standard. We had to return one dish and it took them over 1/2 hour to produce a simple sandwich with a mug of (very salty) soup. On the plus side they do have some gluten free options unlike most golf courses. Course in good condition, greens a bit variable, pace of play was good but we were out early. When we came in there was a long queue on the first tee. Their main focus appears to be society golf.
