Great winter course
As usual we found the course fully open, with no temps, and in good nick considering the time of year. It was pretty busy but that's to be expected as it's a winter golfing Mecca for a large surrounding area.(Round played: Feb 2018 - Score: 100 Handicap: 20.6)

College Pines is a testing course with some challenging holes. The surroundings are beautiful. Tree lined with lots of wild -life, particularly bird-life.The greens were slick.
I have played the course many times and in summer it is a good course whereas it is a superb winter course as it sits on sand.

Best ?28 Winter Course Bar None!
College Pines is THE best ?28 winter course bar none and that is coming from someone who has played 180+ courses in the UK. Yes, its not my favourite layout, yes I don't always play well there but it has NEVER let us down on the weather front. Monsoon rain, snow, icy conditions never a problem you will always have a game on at College Pines. The staff are talkative and lovely, the practice facilities are fine, the food is great and the course challenges everyone whether low or high handicappers. This time the greens were a bit too fluffy which meant the ball did not roll true, but we will take that here as it gives back in other ways. You are not going to come here and say its the best course I have played in my life, but what will happen here is that the course will be open on full greens and tees when the weather is or has been terrible. Book here to guarantee your round will be on when other courses have been shut for days.Reviewer Rating

College Pines
This fabulous course is a must if you are in the area. As the name suggests, set within a forest of pine trees the lay out is beautifully defined but not too tight. With most other courses wet and barely playable College Pines delivered - its sand base means the water soaks through leaving the course a delight even after weeks of none stop rain. Extremely friendly in the club house and pro shop, you will be made very welcome. Definitely worth a round!Reviewer Rating

Great Condition
Played here the other Monday, the course is in excellent condition as always. Perhaps the best winter golf course in England, built on sandy soil it drains incredibly well, no standing water or boggy areas even in the winter rain. Greens were rolling true, PGA Professional was very helpful when giving advice. First round here since the new owners took over the club, the investment they have made is obvious as the course has improved considerably in such a short time. Atmosphere in the clubhouse was very welcoming.Reviewer Rating

Unbelievable Condition
October - Rain, November - Rain, December - Rain, Early Jan - Rain. Most other courses in area boggy or under water. Played here today and not so much as a mud patch anywhere, full tees & greens. It's that dry most ball washers were water free zones!Seriously good for the time of year and unsurprisingly busy as a lot of people travel to play. Paired up today with a couple of gents made the round more enjoyable and played well below handicap - more enjoyable.

Fantastic course
Generally play CP every New Years Day - built on sand, drains very well and small areas of holding water (mainly around Greens and Fringes). Proper tees and greens in play, chance to enter a full summer course in winter. Greens still quite quick, even due to recent rainfall; Fairways not too wet and if you keep ball at a lower trajectory, can manage some rollout too. Good course to play in the winter period.Reviewer Rating

THE best winter course, by far
If you live in the Worksop or Nottingham area you will know that this course is bomb proof in winter, so much so the course survives when golfers give up in bad weather. Anyway, now they have a new greens roller the greens are faster and they have started roping off key run up to greens to help protect some of the areas which could get muddy if they allowed traffic through them. The course is a challenge and will test most golfers, with some short tricky holes and a couple of long par fours, but nothing unreachable in regulation for a good golfer. The staff are great and professional and know how to manage the course in the right way bearing in mind everyone on earth tries to play there in winter. The food is lovely and a treat before and after the round. Lets hope with the new owners coming in we will see an airline added, maybe some changes to the course layout and upgraded paths. But even if it stays as it is, everyone will come.Reviewer Rating

A good winter course
College Pines is a good winter course. There is however a tendency for it to be over subscribed when weather inclement/holiday periods as it does remain open and very playable even in poor weather. There was a 25 minute delay in our tee time yesterday presumably due to this situation. The course was in good condition.Reviewer Rating

Amazing in wet conditions
Turned up more out of hope than expectation with driving rain and puddles everywhere to be seen. Had a coffee and a bacon sandwich, thought we?d give it an hour... not only did we manage to get out on time, but only 45 minutes after the rain stopped and the course was by and large pretty firm and dry. Incredible! Best local course for winter golf bar none.Reviewer Rating
