I was a member of CSGC as a kid. The course has matured really nicely since then with more trees and less bunkers. It’s a tough little course if you’ve not played it before but the views really make it worthwhile. The greens are always in good shape and they’re hardly ever on temporary tees. Friendly and helpful pro and nice food and drink in the lovely club house at very reasonable prices. The clubhouse has views over the town and welcomes non players and walkers etc. Well worth a visitReviewer Rating

Agree with the last writer, it is better than dornoch. Severe climbs and breathtaking views. One of the best I've played. Tough opener, where you just want to swing smooth. 3rd is a blind par 3: great hole. The fourth a tough par four, second shot over a valley to a perched green. Tough green to hit on 14, slope running away to the left of the green. What looks like a chance on the 16, 252 yard par 4, miss right and you are dead though. Fun last two holes that play way down the hill.Reviewer Rating

Stunning! Possibly the best course in England, and I’ve played the big names like St Andrews and Dornoch. Incredible, far reaching views; captivating variety of holes, some with blind shots, some with elevated or lowered pins, some with sunken and tilted greens; a friendly clubhouse; a fair price. It’s challenging and pure and a joy to play.Reviewer Rating

Lovely little but demanding course
We had a great first visit to the course on a windy and potentially rainy October day which thankfully didnt materialise. As a higher handicap player it was a difficult course but with every hole being different, many where you couldnt see the green it was very enjoyable. Will return in slightly better weather. If you can carry your clubs - taking my trolley was as demanding as the course at times!Reviewer Rating

Memorable
Played here October , 2020 .Fantastic course .Interesting , different & unusual .Hilly but very natural with dramatic views (checkout the view from the 8th green ) .Brilliantly designed with the hillside /mountainside terrain & there wasn't one hole i didn't like .Sheep ,wild horses , hidden greens ,marker posts, rocky outcrops & elevation change par 3's .
Short on the card but the quality of design mean approaches on some of the short par 4's have to be struck precisely .
Loads of memorable holes that you are unlikely to find elsewhere & the 1st is a slightly startling opener, a long par 3 with an elevated green above a steep bank & round the corner a bit that required a wood .
I would put this in my top 10 courses played ( out of more than 400 ) .

Unique
The most unique, bizarre but equally stunning course I've played. So enjoyable. It's a par 66 but also one of the toughest courses you can play. I highly recommend this course. The staff and members are very friendly and welcoming.(Round played: Jul 2020 - Score: 88 Handicap: 18.9)

GREAT COURSE - GET A BUGGY!
Great views and a lovely course to play. Has it's challenges with some tight and blind shots but also some to pick up shots. One the highest courses in the UK so views of the Shropshire hills all around but you have to work your way up there on the front 9 so definitely recommend a buggy.Reviewer Rating

You might fall in love
I have such a soft spot for this course. Uniqueness is the key: inland links; wayyyy up high (with those awesome views; the wind can be 20mph higher than down below; wildlife everywhere; holes playing 100yds shorter or longer than they are.A bit disappointing that the staff were gone when I finished, still within the advertised opening times. Understandable in a little country town, however.
Most tellingly, you will come away from your first round remembering every single hole from tee to green - something even most other Braid courses do not offer.
So, yeah... at £14, the value for money is just unbeatable. Go there, battle the wind, the fairway climbs, the blind fairways and the sheep, and remember that each golf course is supposed to be interesting. Every in-and-out parkland you play in future will bore the pants off you!
