slow play
two and a half hours for 9 holes . Walked in at that point. Life's too short . At one stage 4 groups on 5th hole. A woman' fourball playing who couldn't hit the ball 50 yards holding everyone upReviewer Rating

Unfulfilled potential
Fantastic location high up on the hill at Hinksey with superb views over Oxford and its dreaming spires. For location, and course topography this could be one of Oxfordshire?s best.
But...
It seems to be suffering from a lack of direction and clearly, investment.
I first played here about three years ago. At that time many of the bunkers were GUR. I've played here three or four times since, and nothing has changed.
The tee boxes are very variable - some are passable, others have been dug out and even after a year of lockdown and tons of time for ground work, are on temporary tees &/or tee mats.
At ?24 visitor green fee it is not the most expensive course in the county, but it seems overpriced.
Overflowing bins, no course marshalls, an apparently very lax dress code (t-shirts/football shirts and cargo shorts) and players sharing one set of clubs between two - the whole picture is of a club down on its uppers, and willing to let anyone play as long as they pay the green fee.
Buggies - ?32 each - I've had cheaper buggies at premium courses.
Fairways - average. Plenty of weeds about. Greens - very sluggish, but had been very recently hollow-tined.
Would I return?
Without substantial investment in the bunkers, tee-boxes, and course standards it would be a resounding no.
I think this place has the potential to be a great venue, but it feels a bit ?fish & chip?. From the converted agricultural shed/outbuilding as clubhouse, the machine coffee in a plastic cup at ?1:80, to the poor tee-boxes, dreadful bunkers, and poor standards of dress etc I think ?24 is way overpriced.

Disappointing
Decent layout, let down by old holes on many greens not being filled in.No tee marker identification to show what tee you are on and also few signs to say how to find next tee!

The holes have been switched around with the old back nine now the front nine. Whilst the score card reflected the changes, the hole markers did not, which really should be done asap.
In fact some hole had no signs advising the which hole it was, and none showed a view of the hole which would be useful for visitors.
The condition of the course was good although a couple of greens were below par.
We turned up for a tea before teeing off and the club house appeared shut, when we returned latter for lunch we were advised that if you went into the kitchen they would have served you. For lunch the paninis were good and there is an excellent selection of beers. The views from the club house on the first floor in some aspects were blocked by an marque, I am not sure if this is a permanent fixture

Great course ? but!
A lovely course and the setting is fantastic. However, we had 2 rounds which took 5 hrs and 4 1/2 hrs. The course is always packed with 4 balls and in each group maybe 1 has a hcp under 28. You?d never be a member here, it's business plan is weddings, weekend warriors in large groups and it's does it well. Dinner was good. Lunch was actually shocking. ?6.90 Ham sandwich, two thin slices of bread, one slice of processed ham, a smudge of mustard and half a packet of crisps on the side. Must have cost 30p. Other than avoiding lunch, it's a really nice place. Except the long game and you'll have a great weekend!Reviewer Rating

Nice course, VERY slow play
Four of us went for 2 rounds and an overnight stay, Friday and Saturday. Course is nice, mature and picturesque. Medium length and in fairly good nick.HOWEVER, the pace of play is unbelievably slow. 3 and a half hours for 9 holes. We walked in after 15 on the second day as we all had homes to go to. It's a shame as the course is enjoyable. It really needs a course marshall to ensure things are moving along at a reasonable pace. There were often 3 groups waiting on tees and this was extremely tedious.

Good...but
Course, food and accommodation good, but, couldn't get a bacon roll pre golf before 11am and the old petrol buggy we hired was awful. Fumes from it were choking and unhealthy, can't believe it was in use. No pool. Hot tub was broken.Reviewer Rating

Worth a visit
Front 9 makes you think, quite tight and not always a drive from the tee. Back 9 is more open and seems to play longer and not as well thought out. Greens are fast ish but true so so bobbling to the hole, if you miss it's your fault! Course was in great condition.Reviewer Rating

Nice Course - worth visiting
Second visit with our Society and another very enjoyable time. Course in good condition - although chnages to some fairways have not been adjusted on GPS trackers etc. Signs at Pro shop but nothing to remind you on the tee position, which woukl dbe useful. Still a nice course to play, not easy, some tricky holes. Restuarant staff not very welcoming!(Round played: Jun 2019 - Score: 94 Handicap: 17.8)
