Open course with whispy grass as it's defence, bunkers were rubbish, little or no sand in them, what sand there was was dusty, impossible to play a proper bunker shot! Course in general could do with a lot of TLC!
Spending lots of money on the clubhouse, they seem to have forgotten the course! Overpriced, can get better value elsewhere

Course is generally in a good condition for time of year, greens wet but still rolling well.... all the same, won't be visiting ever again. Obnoxious members that refused to let faster groups through leading to a 4h40m round mid week for a 2 ball.
Avoid unless you have half a day to spare for a round!

The greens were in a pretty poor state when I played and lots of the bunkers were under repair. Not as well drained as they claim on their website as it was carry only. I think its a bit expensive for what you get, nice putting green outside the clubhouse tho.

Another course adjusting after lockdown. Greens ok. Fairways dry and very hard. Bunkers have not been touched in months, not even raked. Some are being re built. Ownership recently changed hands which would explain the sudden hike in green fees.

Too busy. Too many members. Too greedy to get more members. All mornings block booked for senior medals and women. So when can you play?Afternoons? Perfect for me, or so I thought. But oh dear! Afternoons are also busy. Whether it’s players from the morning rearranging times I don’t know, but when I booked today it looked quiet on the website for 2pm. What a joke!\It was absolutely packed.\Golf etiquette doesn’t exist. The 14-08 tee off time behind me played their balls before I’d left the first green then their second on the second before I had finished the hole. At this point I decided to finish my 2 hole round. I have rarely finished 18 holes this summer due to slow games. I obviously will not be renewing my membership.

Excellent facilities, range, green and nice par 3 all at hand. Spacious clubhouse. Not too tough of a walk, well defined with some tall fescue that is sensibly kept out of the way. Nice run of holes from 10-14 especially.
Very easy with no meaty par 4's, although the par 5's are genuine 3 shotters. The 7th needs the tee pushing back and to the left, driveable par 4's are fine but 240 down a hill? the open rocky ditch is not to my taste and never seen it with water in.
Condition was surprisingly poor after a dry spell. I have seen it much, much better in the middle of winter. Bare fairways with tufts growing out, greens had been sanded but were still patchy and slow, under 7 on my stimp. Worse, they were covered in unrepaired pitchmarks I counted 10 on one green without looking very hard. Play was slow with the group ahead not aware of the need to rake bunkers.
I'm sure it will be good again, they need to be a lot more careful with letting hackers with no clue on etiquette onto the course, makes no sense with the nice academy setup which is perfect for introducing new golfers.
Sure it will be good again, at the moment very over rated on here.

1st visit to this golf course and was disappointed throughout. Firstly I got barked at by a member of staff with a huge sense of importance when I wheeled my trolley through the reception just moments after I had been informed by the young guy in the pro shop that this was allowed to gain access to the driving range??
The course itself was in good condition however the greens had recently undergone maintenance (spiked and covered with sand) which made putting fairly pointless. I understand course and green maintenance is required but there was no mention of this as we happily handed over our FULL green fees. I feel those that are not regulars at this club should at the very least be informed of such things so that a decision can be made if visitors would like to use the course in its current state.
However, the most frustrating thing about the day was getting behind 4 members who had no intention what so ever of letting anybody play through. As part of a 2 ball we caught up with this group on the 6th tee and then had to wait to play every single shot for the remainder of the round. There were endless opportunities for us to play through but we got the strong impression that these 4 guys felt it was their course and everyone else will just have to wait.
Won't be rushing back to Chesfield Downs anytime soon

Good enjoyable course

I have played at Chesfield Downs on many occasions over the years, always as a visitor. In April 2022, I played as a guest of two friends who are both members. I like the course and on this occasion it was in good condition though I know it can a bit waterlogged in wet weather. The fairways and greens were in good condition though the bunkers did need some work on them.

Although I enjoyed the round, I was taken aback at the price I was charged, even as a member's guest - ?40! Apparently, it would have been ?50 had I not been playing with a member! I think Chesfield Downs is a nice course but it is not good enough to charge that sort of price for a round. I would like to play there in the future but it looks like i will have to play outside the peak summer months. A shame!

Have played this course on numerous occasions. It never seems to change. Wide fairways. Deep rough is well back from edge of fairways. Greens very fast but true. As with all 'local' clubs the bunkers are difficult as there is generally a lack of sand.

Good course, well looked after. At the moment a lack of water deters from some of the holes where streams and lakes have dried up.
Beware of the Golf Police (marshalls for speed of play). We played a four ball in 4 hours but were approached by a 'marshall' on two occasions who had had complaints re slow play from a two ball behind our three tee time three ball society outing. Disappointing given we were keeping to the time check markers displayed around the course.
