Course was in good nick. Greens rolled well. Well looked after in the clubhouse on a society day. Always worth playing here.

Tough opening holes

Tough opening holes, but eases up after a few.

Slightly weird gate opening combination needed. Had drivers queuing to get out

Great - but tough

Lovely setting and the staff made us very welcome. Couldn't fault the tees and the greens were probably the best we've played on this year - the ball ran true and fast!
A really good test, but if you stayed 3m off the fairway the cut grass covered your ball and could spoil an otherwise good round.

In need of some love

Cherry Lodge feels in need of some love, particularly the greens.

The course itself isn’t bad, though I certainly don’t find it an inspiring layout. For example 1 and 4 are played down the same corridor and 2 and 5 as well; one as a par 5 the other as a par 4. The course gets better from 8 onwards with some nice sweeping par 5s and challenging par 4s.

But the greens were not good. Very slow indeed, tufty grass in places and the signature two tiered 16 had the slope looking less like a green and more a rather untidy apron. It seemed like they’d been designed to be receptive (they were) but had become puddings. Yes the recent wet weather may not have helped but most of June has been bone dry.

Too many trees near some greens meaning they don’t get air and light. The soft surfaces meant that the only way in was aerial and golf courses which force a player to come in only one way are not good courses. Oh for a bump and run.

Good Challenge

Well worth the visit. Friendly clubhouse and members. The rough is severe so be prepared to be punished for any wayward shots.

Pretty course

Course lovely, however grass on greens had flowered recently so not in the best nick, won't last that way for long mind.

Greens were poor on the day as we’re the tees and bunkers. Bit of a boring layout wouldn’t recommend for the cost of the round and probably won’t rush back there

Played in a Society event. Was extremely windy but did not detract from the golf. Good variety of holes. Some of the Greens had some problems but where condition good they were of a good pace.Friendly clubhouse staff and an enjoyable meal at the end where social distancing measures were easily met.

Good course

Played here after many years and was pleasantly surprised. It has had many changes with landscaping and does criss cross a little. Few walkers that you have to be careful with. The course was in excellent condition and greens were good. Did not use the club facilities due to COVID . Come here to escape into the countryside.
