Played on a sunday afternoon and course was very quiet. £42 standard price, discounted to £26 was still expensive compared to other courses in the area.
However the course was in fair condition with very firm fairways and good greens. Bunkers were also reasonable.

Poor Course

Played here July 2019

I didn't enjoy this course & wouldn't play it again.I only played it to tick it off as i hadn't played it before.
It all feels a bit basic from when you arrive (walking to the 1st tee there are mounds of rubble/sand ?) to the hole designs .Also it's an undulating & hard walk round .
The green complexes are quite minimal & most greens are oval shaped with fairly flat or sloping slightly upturned saucerish surfaces & some greens just sit in a featureless open area surround with no greenside bunkering or moundings around it .I also found that on medium length approach shots the greens ,although not particularly firm , weren't that receptive & the ball would run to or over the back & if you landed the ball short the ball the same would happen.Quite a few greens had small patches of sunburnt blemishes on them .

The fairways & tees had a lot of weeds on them & the bunkering sometimes consisted of a hole with only one bunker on it & in an unusual position.
A hole layout map on the scorecard or a hole layout sign on each tee would have been useful as well as marker posts for the blind 2nd shots on the par 5 6th & 9th holes.

The 17th tee is close to the clubhouse but you then have to play a long uphill par 5 going back out away from it & we weren't motivated to play these last 2 holes .

Maturing well

As a course opened at the time when golf was dipping in popularity, it has done well to survive. The greens, which suffered from a disease in 2017, have all but recovered and putt true, with subtle borrows all over the place. Good use of water keeps the greens playable even in the severe heat of last summer. Give it a go, you won't regret it!

Avoid like the plague

What a dive. The clubhouse feels like a prefabricated barracks room and the car park is a mudhole in Louisiana type affair. The course, whilst monet has been spent in it, is a shocker. No challenge at all and extremely dull. The greens however were the crowning glory. Diseased soft muddy awful looking things. I washed all my gear and disinfected my shoes after playing here. Avoid this place. Its terrible.

Have just returned for 9 holes, after last playing there in late 1990's when I was a member.
What a transformation. Gone is the featureless landscape, poor fairways and greens. Each hole is now more clearly defined with trees now lining many of them. Greens are well maintained and good tee boxes. It now stands proud amongst the other courses in the area of similar price. Food also good value, and friendly and helpful staff.
Well worth a visit.

A deceptively challenging course with a need for both accuracy and length from most tees to give you the best chance of hitting the greens, which are all fast and undulating and most are fairly small. Set on a hill side surrounded by farmland, some of the views are awesome, but that also means that the walk is a fairly hilly one, so buggies would be recommended for those less able or inclined to walk the course. Whilst the greens are small, fast and undulating, they are true and consistent and kept - like the rest of the course - in very good condition. Watch out for the 10th - a great little par 3, over a pond with a green that slopes steeply from back to front - but much more tricky than it's yardage or stroke index suggests. Thoroughly enjoyed my round, despite my score, and I look forward to taking it on again soon.

Chalgrave Manor is a parkland course which is suitable for golfers of all standards. The layout of the holes makes the low handicapper think about placement and the large fairways allow the high handicapper some margin for error. The greens have improved significantly over the past few years to true running. The membership is friendly and welcoming.

This is a maturing golf course that keeps improving. Having played here over a number of years the course is currently in the best condition I have known with the recent drainage changes helping vastly.

Yes the club house facilities need some time and money spent on them but the priority has been rightly spent on the course.

Good course, great greens.

This place gets no better!! Haven't played here for over 2 years. Was told it was much better now, but have to disagree. Still no ProShop to speak of, advertises a non existent pro. Obviously had a lot of work done with landfill, but really hasn't helped. Yes it's given the course some contours but the overall condition is shocking. The fairways and greens are poor, and the rough is full of weeds. There's no facilities, tatty bar for its age, and the foodie not look inviting. It's really not worth the effort. Won't bother again, there is much better and friendlier nearby by.

Chalgrave is a lovely course that is a work in progress. The drainage ditches on the 11, 14 and 15 are there to help the course.

The clubhouse does need refreshing but the food is always good and the staff welcoming.

The membership us excellent value and in two years i've only played 2 rounds of golf over 4.5 hours.

It is testing course due to the number if hills and blind shots but the point of golf is to improve

Been a member for the last couple of years and the whole club has been going down hill , it needs a person who can give it some golf loving and talk to its members and not just the ones who are by the bar all weekend , it's the best course around but need someone who can give it what it needs , the staff are brilliant and the club house need knocking down and rebuilding . But for the money you can play it for a few years before it starts wearing you down that someone can do that to a golf course with alot of potential .

Have played this course several times and always find it a challenge, the front nine although longer ( 4 par 5's) is easier than the back 9. The 11th with its difficult drive and 3 tiered green is always a challenge. The staff are always welcoming and the food is good value for the price. Try the hame eggs and chips with beans and say to the beautiful Clare that I sent you

A superb course. Obviously 'young' but very playable. Fairways are nice not scarred, 1st cut or semi- rough is just that & you've gotta playing quite poorly to find the rough rough! Elevation changes keep you on your toes as do the water hazards, mainly ditches but ponds on the 1st & 11th could be in play for the errant golfer, whereas the 10th is all about the pond, or is it? Once on the par 3's green how many putts will you take? The slope is quite impressive! It's as if Augusta came to Bedfordshire! 2-4-1s are accepted & i would take them up on it! Cost £11 each with 2-4-1 (£12 for buggy) midweek.

Appearances can be deceiving - the course is not as easy as the stroke rating suggests. Some tight fairways and small greens add to the challenge. Not at its best in the winter months as it holds water around the greens but definitely worth a visit

Have played here numerous times over the last 20 years and always found it a challenge but this round was destroyed by abysmal greens. These greens have not been looked after it seems, a lot of bumps, patches, rot and one green looked like a bonfire had been lit on it. The fairways were ok but not great and the tee boxes could do with some attention too. This was my first round back here since lockdowns and I really expected more. Such a shame it’s been allowed to get to this state.
