I played this course on 20th October 2013, I found the course a good test with some of the holes with elevated tees which were truly astounding giving excellent views of the surrounding area.
The greens, tee beds and fairways were in excellent condition with the course a fair test with the wind blowing a little.
The pro shop was very helpful and could not do enough for our visiting party.
After the round we had the all day breakfast which was excellent served in the newly re furbished club house.....I will definitely be visiting again in the future as everyone agreed that the course and the facilities were first class.

Course is in good condition, greens are excellent at present. Very windy today which affects the shots, but that also makes the course play different every time you visit.

The course is designed by James Braid, same designer for gleneagles. Having played Gleneagles this year I wondered how this would fair and I have to say that it comes in my top 5 courses I've ever played, probably number 3 after the Kings and Queens courses.

I think this course is under exposed considering how good and testing a track it is, but that may be because the management of it wasn't massively impressive.

For starters it's not at all signposted off the main roads nearby and the driveway leading the clubhouse could be mistaken for a large footpath or bridleway. On the course itself they do have some nice tee number boards with hole layouts, however, there often aren't clear signposts to the next tee. With many blind shots you have to rely on the marker posts in the fairway, however, I found a number of these to be off the line of the shot with a couple needing to be shot quite left of to be safe, especially if you have a natural fade. Despite that the scenery and the layout of the course is quite astounding and if I lived up in Burnley it would be the course for me.

The clubhouse is in much need of some paint and pride and i recoken that this course could command some great attraction if marketed right. For instance the cheapest pitch forks going with justa paper logo sticker on isn't the best memento in the world!

Anyway, i'll be back to try it out when i'm next up north again!

Excellent course, though challenging when the wind blows, all greens and fairways are in great condition and the clubhouse and facilities are A1. Also the pro shop lads are extremely friendly and helpful.

Very Challenging course

First time played this course, essentially built around a hill. Front nine quite tough, back nine a bit more forgiving. Knowing the course can be a significant advantage as quite a few blind holes. If mobility is an issue, avoid this course.
Well laid out , greens excellent . A very enjoyable challenge

Nice course worth playing

Always nice to play Burnley when it's decent weather, get great views of East Lancashire on a clear day like it was today. Course in great conditions, greens smooth and tricky (as usual). If not played there before, a few blind tee shots so beware, always tricky to score well here as it's a good test even on a nice day.

Played this course quite a few times and it’s always great course to play. Weather can make the course very difficult but that doesn’t take away from the course. Always n great condition and staff are always friendly and helpful.

Winter belter

Class place, pro super and welcoming and £12.50 for winter pairs is without doubt the best value in the UK. the layout is brilliant. first visit so a massive learning experience. the views alone are worth the entrance fee. shame the fairways are off limits with move to side / rough. great idea tho allowing clean and drop in rough not that I had a mud ball (unlike previous day up north) greens could have done with a roll TBH and foot print central but looked in good shape all the same. 100% going back a LOT.

Great moorland track

Burnley is a great moorland course, seriously undulating, thick wiry rough & fantastic views.
Set at the foot of the Pennines there's hardly a flat lie in the place, the greens are fast & true & the fairways are superb.
It's not the longest in the world, but that doesn't matter with some of the strategic decisions that you have to make. Add to this the fact that's it's nearly always windy up there &'you have a true test of golf.
The welcome in the clubhouse s also great, plus the local members are always happy to see a visitor.

Great Moorland Course

Burnley is always in great condition, a fantastic moorland course on the edge of the Pennines.
Some won't like the humps & hollows & that there are a few blind drives, but I think that adds to the fun of it.
Not only is the course in great condition, with superb lightning quick greens, the views from the course are breath taking.
Add to that the friendly staff & you have a great golfing experience

Tough challenge

Despite a par of 68, Burnley is a tough challenge, especially in the wind & rain that we had.
It's a classic moorland course cut into the pennine moors, up & down, left & right, but superb.
It's in great condition, greens were superb & the bunkers excellent.
You need to be fit to play it, but it's well worth it.

Windy but enjoyable round

Course in excellent condition and the greens quick. I had played here once before but in awful conditions. This round was a little breezy but that added to the challenge. The course is well set out and challenging in places. Well worth a visit and great value for money.
