Course was over rated, greens were terrible, fairways were like rough, the clubhouse was old and tatty also the people weren\'t welcoming. The green fees were too expensive and I don\'t think I\'ll be playing again. Score: 75 hcp: 7.1

Condition excellent. However, a very humdrum course. You have to hit a truly awful shot to possibly lose a ball. A good course for the higher handicap player who wants a course to themselves. PS the clubhouse was very tired and tatty.

Solid course but left a bit underwhelmed

Came here with perhaps unreasonable expectations having been told it was the best in the midlands, but both myself and my partner agreed that all in all it flattered to decieve. Considering it was late November you could tell the condition was generally excellent, with some classy bunkering, carpet like (if frosty!) greens, but with a few too many so so holes, particuarly on the back nine, and an at times uninspiring layout. The plot of land at times felt too small for a golf course - some of the holes felt shoehorned in to make up the 18, with tee boxes and greens regularly crossing over each other. The clubhouse, likewise, is a lovely old building but the interior was in pretty dire need of an update!

That said, if you come not expecting the birmingham augusta, it is still a good course in excellent condition. Many holes are great, particuarly (for me) the par 3 over water 9th and a heavily bunkered par 4 10th reminiscent of sunningdale and more good holes than average ones. If it were at its best all the way round im sure it would be rated much more highly!

What a lovely place, pro was welcoming and helpful (always a must for me) visitors changing rooms excellent with towels for after game shower. Course is truly awesome and your going to need a few rounds to master it. Only downside the greens had been freshly hollow tined and sanded so a lottery.

Chipping/pitching area at front near barrier and indoor nets behind pro shop just the job

I'll 100% be back for sure, great day out with Tony @ TeeTours £40 for this gem :-)

Sadly i played like a plank all day but two birdies 17,18 made it all better lol.

Fortunate to get an invite to friends 50th birthday golf day which was at Blackwell. From what I have been told it is not easy to get a game there unless with a member. Bearing that in mind they were very welcoming in the Pro Shop and Club House. The course obviously gets plenty of care and attention as it looked and was in very good condition. The greens were slow though which initially took getting used to as you could leave puts short on a downhill putt!
Overall though a really interesting and challenging layout with a couple of shortish Par 5's and a few long par 3's one of which famously Augusta 12th was modelled on.

A gentlemens club with a golf course attached .As a guest of a member I was unable to spend money there and noted a wonderful difference in facilities between members and visitors facilities. The limited membership gives an exclusive air to the place and a feel of millionaires golf. The course is typical of a greenbelt affluent area course of the 60-£70 range, very decent but largely lacking memorable holes bar a U shaped par 5 and a scary final shot to a green uncomfortably near the clubhouse windows. The pleasure of the place is the stepping back in time ambience . Green fees with a member were peppercorn for the offering. Hcp 5

I played here recently in an Open Competition and was taken with everything about this absolute gem of a course. The welcome given by the clubhouse staff, the proshop, & the hands on club manager set the day up, & the conditioning of the course was absolutely superb ( the greenstaff are right on top of their game). If only our play had been better, but the tricky (but fair) greens caught all the visitors out. In the company of my wife I returned to play here a week later & we met a number of very approachable & friendly members - they are extremely fortunate in their choice of home course......

Superb

What a great day playing at Blackwell today. The hospitality was fantastic from Peter and his team. I would put the course as one of the best I have played. Condition was superb and every hole offered a different challenge. Really enjoyed the par 3’s as they were a real test. The green are the best I have played on all year. Very true and a nice pace. They are very tricky to putt on due to the undulation but nevertheless still enjoyable to putt on. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending Blackwell, so if your in the area or looking for a great course for a society. Speak to Peter I’m sure he would be more than accommodating.

First time playing here and I was not disappointed one bit. The whole course literally has it all. Great mix of holes. Par 3’s as good as you can find. Bunkers are literally everywhere and so so good. Greens as pure as I’ve putted on. If you love golf you’ll love playing here.

Played this charming parkland course in late August. It was in great condition and has quite challenging greens. Shame that the old fashioned long socks with shorts rule still exists but that is the members’ choice and the website clearly warns visitors of this. Booking via the secretary was a friendly experience and the whole atmosphere was a pleasant one. I would most certainly play there again.

Fantastic course and service

Played Blackwell on Monday 14th September 2020 with my works golf society, the course was in absolute perfect condition and all the staff and members were incredibly friendly. The dress code is very outdated (some might say traditional...) In that if you wear shorts, you MUST wear knee length socks! Not ideal on the hottest day in weeks, as most of us opted for trousers but some of our group did dig out there football socks. Because of the dress code a few of us were worried that the club might be a bit snobbish, but it was completely the opposite. We were made incredibly welcome all day.
Would highly recommend. The course itself is fairly short of yellows - par 5's not really par 5's, but a great mix of tree lined, short fiddly holes and some holes you can open the shoulders up a little. Greens are pretty undulated and you needed to be on the right side of the hole to make up and downs easy.

Even though the conditions (very windy) were tough it is always a pleasure to visit Blackwell GC and play this stunning course. The greens staff should be complimented for their magnificent work, 20 of us played and everyone without exception commented that they can't wait to return. The welcome we received from all the staff and the way we were looked after will ensure a date in the diary next year for certain. If you haven't yet found this hidden gem do yourself a favour and pay it a visit.

Lunch was minimal due to covid etc but all we met were friendly, the pro couldn't have been ore helpful. Extraordinary value and we will return very soon. Recommended!
