Hi Derek,
Thank you for your review, glad you enjoyed your day with us here at Blacknest.
The course has been in great shape this year and feedback has been excellent.
However, some tees do need attention, we have a winter project in place to improve quite a few of them, ready for next season.
Kind Regards

Played as a reciprocal to our home club, very enjoyable round, teamed up with a single player, club member (Ollie), gave us a few pointers to look out for which made it a pleasure to play, (and he bought the beers,) thanks Ollie, will return the favour when you play our course.
Greens were firm and predictable, fairways firm a bit dry due the present drought.
Will definitely come again.

The course is shorter than most but it makes up for it by having to be accurate. Condition of the course is very good.

Played the course twice over the past 10 days, fairways are firm however the greens are a little sandy and I am sure they will improve over the next couple of weeks, the course is a Spring / Summer course not an Autumn / Winter course as it has no drainage. I think it's a lovely course and will defiantly be playing again during the coming months.

Hi Clive,
Thank you for your review, glad you enjoyed your round. Greens are getting better every day and the sand will soon be fully absorbed into the greens.

Some of the comments are a bit harsh. Yes it can get a bit soggy underfoot, but its "winter golf,"
and many courses are like this. I still think its a really nice course and we enjoyed our round.

Heavy going
There is much to recommend at Blacknest. The staff are friendly, green fees are modest and clubhouse facilities are good. However (at this time of year, at least) the course is very heavy going. The greens are quite patchy and the fairways muddy. A bit of a struggle all round in the winter to be frank. Some of the holes are oddly positioned too, with crossovers and switchbacks in certain areas. It doesn’t always flow from hole to hole. Keep the course map handy. Perhaps one to save for the summer months.

Very welcoming and friendly. Facilities very good. Course seems to have no drainage and is fairly featureless apart from some water.
Just the one visit for me. All the Best and good luck sorting out some drainage. It's like playing in a rice field!

Lovely day, damp course
I had a lovely day out but this course really needs to sort out drainage. It is so muddy and the course is so damp it’s off putting. It’s a tricky course but enjoyable if this could be rectified. Shame really as the facilities are great.

Enjoyable Round
First time playing this course. I was impressed with the facilities at the Club and the course design is interesting and challenging. The Pay & Play green fees are very reasonable. Unfortunately the weather was poor (course was damp) which meant the greens were a bit bumpy but still reasonable.
I’d definitely play again

Hosted a friend whose (local) home course was hosting a Pro-Am on the day. Everything was going really well: booking, tee-time, pro-shop, practice facilities - and then we hit the course. The design itself is entertaining (notwithstanding the reputation for "a lot of water - and not only in the ponds"), but two major turn-offs. One: the greens were appalling, with almost every single putt subject to bobbles, bounces and unexpected deviations - in fact, an embarrassment. Two: It's a fair cop to drop a shot (or two) if one strays off the fairway, but to immediately lose a ball in badly cut and un-picked-up grass and debris almost every time is a bit much. My companion did not enjoy his round. With these two things fixed it would be a pleasure to host other friends.

Thank you for review. I'm sorry the greens aren't to your, or indeed our satisfaction. Course work was carried out 10 days ago and it sometimes takes longer than we'd like to fully recover.
Warm weather has meant extra rough cutting and if the grass is wet, it clumps up. Sadly you seemed to find these areas. Grass cuttings are not collected and usually disperse quickly.
Look forward to seeing you again in the future.
Kind Regards
Paul

Mr
Played on Sat 4 th Sept ( a two ball)??
Paid £64 for 2 a round- buggy reduced to £15 as the greens were covered in this kind of sand manure , it was really bad in parts of the course ,as globules of thick mud & sand on the greens made it terrible( nearly impossible) for standard putting- it was really bad- when booking we were NOT made aware of this situation, we were only advised when the pro when we arrived at the pro shop-( a bit late to change). We should of received( I think) half price green fees re these appaling state of greens- why do they doing this green feeding just before a Saturdsy( and dry weather forecasted?
Plus we noticed( and missed out) the 12 hole - we missed the tea( where is it)???????

Thank you for your honest review. The course maintenance is scheduled a year in advance, due to a very busy club diary.
Our online booking portal did state that course work had just been done and there was severe disruption. We try to inform people of this when they call us to book a tee time too. on occasion we do miss this and when booking online it can be missed.
Also, booking online does not allow for a reduced greenfee, which I feel you should receive after course work. If you contact me directly I will happily offer you another game.
I will have a look at the signage on the 11th green as there should be something pointing you towards the 12th tee. (we do have a 12th hole!)

Now better than ever - will definitely play again
It had been 25 years since I last played Blacknest, so naturally I was expecting the place to have changed. And changed it had. The 18 hole course has matured nicely over the years, the fairways were very good and the greens were as slick as they ever were. The overall layout of the course and its surroundings makes for a throughly enjoyable round of golf (regardless of golfing ability).
All of the staff that I interacted with were very pleasant, and I'd like to think that I will be returning to play here again very soon. As given the price, Blacknest is very good value for money.
The only part of the experience that prevents me from giving a full on 5 star review was the driving range. I wasnt expecting Top Tracer or anything like that, just some semi decent balls would have been nice.
But overall, if you can, go and play Blacknest.

Thank you for your kind review, really glad you enjoyed your visit.
Our September range ball delivery was delayed and we had to buy a few thousand 2nd hand balls. Not something we wanted to do, but it was our only option.
As of the end of the month we have a sizeable delivery of brand new balls coming.
Look forward to seeing you again soon.
