It's ok....just. Wouldn't rush back. Not a patch on Downshire. It's a links course in the middle of the country. Very windy although the forecast said 'gentle breeze'

Not worth the money - poor conditions

Do not part with your 35 pounds for a round here... highly overpriced given the current state of the course (it could be due to the lack of maintenance during lockdown), but the greens are pitch marked resulting in your ball bobbling. Uneven tee boxes were surrounded by discarded beer bottles, cans, and coffee cups (clearly from the previous day as we played early on a Sunday), which the Greenkeepers hadn't bothered to pick up that morning. It is also playing very slow currently as the tee times don't appear to be adequately spaced out. The actual course layout is quite picturesque, so it's not all doom and gloom!

I have played this course over the last ten years and it is slowly getting worse and worse and not the cost of £29.50 its a joke.
Overall fairway condition poor greens terrible and tee greens rock hard..The place looks like it has no ground staff to keep it up to scratch.I know its been a dry summer but nothing seems to have been watered for weeks.
Also i agree with another reviewer that the drainage is non existent when the course is wet.Probably would not go back until i hear they have improved the course. There is much better courses in Berkshire for less money than this place.

Very disappointing

I stopped playing this course a year ago because of the ruidiculous length of the rough just a yard off the fairway. They seemed to have rectified the problem but today it was back to the old issue. The first cut, when there was one, was 2" - 3" long and beyond that was over 6". The 18th fairway looked more like rough waith patches where the grass was over 4" long. Spent as much time looking for balls as playing golf. Our group consisted of decent players with handicaps of 12 and 15 and even they were dismayed. This wasn't enjoyable and I won't be returning. Shame as it's a good looking course.

Very boggy fairways.

I have played this course a few times in the summer months and really enjoyed it. However, I didn’t realise how boggy it is in the winter, that is why I only gave it a fair rating. Considering the fairways are so bad the greens were excellent. Didn’t try the facilities as we had spent too long looking for plugged balls and wanted to get home before the rush hour. The starter and green keeper were very friendly.

Contrasting views

I love and hate this course. Some lovely holes. Great layout. Great facilities. But more often than not they let the rough grow to over 4 inches only a yard or two off the fairway. So frustrating as it causes unnecessary ball losses and promotes slow play. No need for it. And simply saying 'well keep it on the fairway then' is not good enough. Unless this changes I won't be returning.

A pretty average course, but its only 15 minutes from my home. The fairways and greens were in pretty good nick, but I'm used to playing at Temple Golf which is so much better than Bird Hills and not much more expensive for 18 holes. Had a bacon sandwich and a coffee in the bar before my round. The bacon was chewier than the sole of my shoe.

The course looks well manicured and presents itself well however the bunkers are not consistent and some have rock hard shelfs near the face from which it is extremely difficult to play a shot.
The practise balls on the range are in very poor condition and I returned 22 out of 60 as they were dreadful.
Greens just been treated but should come good within a couple of weeks.
